Remember when

I remember pumping my own gas and paying afterwards……only then to realize I left my money at home.

Was able to trade a cheap watch for a tank of cheaper gas.

 

…When all telephones were plain black plastic?

They were heavy enough to become a popular murder weapon in the movies.

Then decorator colors came out on the Princess Phone?

Nobody in the movies ever got murdered with a princess phone.

 

I remember when you had a gas station attendant come out and pump your gas, check your oil and add windshield fluid.

 

We had the yellow phone with the yellow “Harvest Gold” appliances and daisy wallpaper. The living room had light mint green shag carpeting that I had to rake every weekend before company came over.

 

We always had beaters; he'd come out and pump our oil, check our gas and sell my dad a 6 pack.

 

That was me for about 5 weeks, right after I got out of school, until I got my first engineering job.

I remember in Utah you could drive up to a minimart and they would sell you beer and wine and cigarettes right through the drive up window like you were at McDonald’s.

I remember driving up to a window at the minimart and getting beer and nightcrawlers and going fishing. You might’ve been able to buy ammunition there too. But that was 50 years ago.

 

Found a few, don’t think it helped.

New Jersey has all full service gas stations unless something has changed .

Me being Paranoid it was just strange handing them my Credit Card so they can run inside to swipe it .

Even though fuel was cheaper I only fueled when I really had to.

 

Guilty that was long ago!!

 

I never remember seeing that brand.

 

Remember when you could get a glass bottle coke from the coke machine that had the metal cap on it that you had to have a can opener to open?

I remember telling my sister that the hole in her school desk was an inkwell for a bottle of ink.

Those desks were from the cast iron days of maybe 1870~1920.
I went to school buildings from every era, from 1880's on thru the age of big glass and tiny aluminum.

This one still stands in Duluth, albeit without its wood steeple.

Remember drive-in theater playgrounds? The kids could play before the movie started or at "intermission."
Heck, remember drive-in theaters?

 

We would hide a couple friends in the trunk, extra money at the snack bar.
