Is there a reason I can’t get my text message alerts to display on the screen ? 2023 trd off road non premium .
I went into settings on the head unit, I think it was under Bluetooth or phone , there’s a on off selection for sms text message and email notifications on screen … but the option is dimmed out on the screen as though it’s not available.
I have not played around with it a whole lot yet to try to figure it out, but it seems it’s just not available. Coming from a ford truck with the sync system . It just did this automatically. There was no on off that I know off .
Missing important texts while driving is annoying. My ford would alert me and even read them to me so I didn’t have to take my eyes off the road.
I just assumed all vehicles had this standard now . Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any tips

    Plugged in or not?

My Android will alert with text messages when connected via bluetooth. When it's plugged in and working via Android Auto text messages will not alert and after several updates and playing with the settings I have yet to get it to work.

not plugged in . I’m on an apple phone . Maybe it’s a setting within the phone . I haven’t dug too deep yet .like I say .. on the ford it all just worked . Never had to change any settings . I thought maybe I’m just missing something obvious.

Silly question, but the phone is paired to the head unit? If I recall after doing that the default settings did display phone messages and calls on the head unit.

Press the hard “menu” button to pull up the first screen.

Tap “phone” to pull up the second screen.

Tap “notifications/display” to access the third screen which allows you to configure your messages, emails, etc.

    Hope that works.

yup, that’s exactly what I did . And on the third screen pic you posted where is says sms notifications pop up and email notifications pop up and has the little on/off switch . I can see that on my screen, but it’s dimmed out more than the other options and won’t let me select it. The screen just doesn’t respond as though that option is not available.
It can’t be my phone. It’s a month old iPhone 13 Pro . So it should be up to date and fully compatible.
    Very strange .

Are you able to stream music?

Try forgetting and re-pairing the phone. Perhaps you accidentally didn’t allow permission for the head unit to access messages and email. I can’t remember if it prompts for that during set up.

I still haven’t figured out why notifications work with Bluetooth but not when directly connected with android auto on my truck.

hmm yeah good idea. Yes I can stream music. Everything is working as it should except text alerts . that could be that it was set to off in the initial set up. I did the initial set up and pairing with the sales person when I picked up my truck . We were talking and I kinda rushed through it . Maybe I said no to that without realizing.
