Finally decided to start a build thread for the third Tacoma I’ve owned. I’ve learned a lot from reading other people’s threads so hopefully I can return the favor.

    2006 Toyota Tacoma dclb
    TRD sport SR5 v6
    180k miles

    wheels/tires
    32” falken wildpeak m/t
KMC wheels (have to check model)

    suspension
    Currently stock,
    Just ordered:
    fox 2.0 performance series coilovers
Fox 2.0 performance series rear shocks
Icon 1.5” multi leaf add-a-leaf pack
    Roost shields for rear socks
Will do a write up on installing those with part numbers and the lift they give. Looking for 2” lift in the front and 1.5” lift in the rear.

    Interior mods:
Joying android 10.0 head unit with apple carplay
Will do a write up on this. Felt like a bit of a gamble buying this but so far it’s been awesome.

    The night I bought it

A couple reasons I wanted this specific truck:

05-07 trd sport package included a mechanical limited slip rear differential which for daily driving on dirt roads that are covered in snow and ice half the year is ideal. lockers are great for serious off roading but with a little finesse a lsd will do the job just fine on trails and off road while also have way more daily driving usability.

My last Tacoma was an access cab which I loved with the 4.0 v6 and 6 speed manual but I have a few people that regularly rely on me for rides so that prompted the jump up to a double cab. Maintaining the long bed was worth sacrificing the manual and switching to an auto trans since I use the bed a lot and also have a custom sleeping platform/drawer system that I build for my old truck’s 6’ bed.

factory roof rack is a nice addition even though I have a bed rack that is built to carry more weight than I would truck in the factory rack.

the jbl speakers and sub sounds great, Especially with the aftermarket headunit. I will say the oem head unit was dead when I bought it so I don’t have a baseline comparison but the jbl is much better than the speakers in my old access cab.

thanks! Yea I’ve bounced back and forth between modifying Toyota 4x4s and modifying Bmws so I am well acquainted with being broke but having a fun car. Worth it in my opinion!

got the fox shocks for a pretty good deal I think. They should be a nice balance between performance while also not being crazy expensive. Was very close to getting the archive garage hammer hangers and shock towers so I could run 2.0x12” shocks instead of stock location but decided this will be fine for now.

someday I’d like to go proper long travel build but that’ll be down the road a ways.
