This is one of the very few times where “normal characteristic of the vehicle” applies. Rustproof it yearly, but not with the rubber coating shit.

The welds are not perfect, and neither is the frame paint. It’s a mass produced utility vehicle. They could definitely use a better coating or more of it, but they are all like that. That’s what we bought. They are rustier than that off the lot especially in the winter where I’m from. If you want to keep the truck more than 8-10 years, research rustproofing on the forum. Can probably double the service life of a truck in crappy climates.

How else do you think your frame will rot out by year 6-7? That rust has to start before it leaves the factory.

Mine wasn't that bad off the lot but it didn't see any salt either. I guess that is from 1-2 salty slushy trips.
The factory frame coatings are a known weak point. Yes, research rustproofing here. You will find two camps-1. annual fluid fim (or equivalent), or 2. One and done (and maybe a touchup later) of cosmoline. Avoid any rubberized undercoating at all costs. This is one area on the forum we can all come together on.

Some folks are near TW members who buy in bulk and do it for a fee, and some folks are near commercial places like NH oil or Krown. Those are all good options but it still falls into 1. oily stuff done every year or 2. waxy stuff one and done.

I touched up some thin spots with rust bullet and then did the whole truck with cosmoline. I bought some wands to get into hard to reach areas and used a brush where I couldn't spray. Tin foil makes for good masking and a throw away pillow makes it easier to lie on the ground. If there was a pro near me I would have paid the money to do it.

You can spray fluid film any time, even on rusty metal. Cosmoline needs to go on when new. That's why I went the cosmoline route.

    Whatever you do, do something.

Glad you didn't look under any new Dodges, Fords, or Chevy's, you might have had a blood vessel pop.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
If you pop out that plastic frame plug, reach around inside it........keep looking. Toyota hid an Easter Egg in there, if it's not in that one. Check the other 25 or so your truck has.

I never had a chance to look under for rust cause as soon as it came off the lot it went straight to the Krown rust proofing. Just a habit that I have to Krown all my new vehicles before the winter salts and sands hit. just saying
