I hope this is NOT the evidence he shows you to confirm the water pump is defective.

Since it is under warranty send it to the shop. Ask for diagnosis with no out of warranty repairs without a written estimate of repair.

IE don't just fix it, unless Toyota is paying. If you have to pay, you get told before hand.

I agree 100%, except, from what ive read, water pump, tensioner pulley, or timing chain guides should all be covered. I think OP should not pay for anything, hes got 54k miles on truck.

Ive just never heard a water pump make that kind of racket. The water pump is internal, that sound from the video sounded like it was coming from outside of the engine not internally.<edit> I reviewed the videos, doesn't sound like a rattle to me, could be water pump. Idk.</edit>

Im skeptical of their early diagnosis.

both above are good reasons to also consider a 2nd opinion. unless you really trust this shop.

I don't trust any shops. If I do get Toyota to buy off on this then I hope they will fund a full inspection to rid this problem.

Your warranty from Toyota should be in with your owners manual. Show them that.

Hah, thanks. I wanted to try and distance itself from the ordinary rattle our trucks have.

Not sure if anyone has knowledge on the cooling system but about a month ago I changed out my coolant thermostat and now my water pump is bad? Could these be related in some way other than their job function of overall cooling the truck.

Also still waiting on the dealership to get back with me...

Nope. I filled my radiator, let it run it's cycle and then topped it off and the reservoir.

Soo after a week of unanswered calls to the service manager at the dealership, I said fuck it and decided to change my belt and see if it would help. All my pulleys seem fine and I'm pretty sure the "leak" they mentioned was just left over mess I didn't get when changing my coolant thermostat.

Started it up and let it run for a few minutes and nothing unusual so far... Hopefully this trend stays. Got about another year under the Power train warranty.

    Thanks guys!

So just a bad belt and all the pulleys are OK? Interesting!
