Curious, normal in what way? As a warning or just out of meanness or what?

Ha asking the real questions here.

New primed hood from Toyota was $550, paint job itself another $750 considering they had to blend the fenders, a-pillars and bumpers.

    Bummer. Intentional no doubt.

About those Chanterelles - Don't dehydrate them - they are notorious for poor re-hydration flavor/texture. Dry them 3/4 and vacuum bag them, or better yet give this a go.

The Oven-Roasted Version (using 2 lbs.)

    1. Preheat the oven to 400°.
    2. Adjust the recipe by cutting the fat in half (you have 8x as many mushrooms but will use only 4X as much fat, i.e. a total of 4 tbsp.)
    3. If you want to substitute onions and garlic for the shallots, remember that your combined volume wants to be a little less than half of what your mushrooms would be if chopped to a similar size. For what it’s worth, this is exactly the sort of use for which God invented the food processor.
    4. Toss the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and then spread out in an even layer on a sheet pan or other oven-safe container. Roast at 400° until the thin edges of your mushrooms start to crisp up and your alliums start to smell a little toasty.

Good eye buddy. I thought the same thing too at first re: angle of entry and it being mostly centered on the hood.

My father who spent most of his life in the backwoods of Oregon once told me “there’s only two kinds of people in the sticks, people just like you enjoying the wilderness or bad people trying hide bodies - be prepared to run into both”. I carry every time I’m in the woods, even when I’m out fishing for steelhead.

I’ve yet to run into any super territorial mushroom hunters, but first time for everything. I’ll never know for sure, but I’ll add I was parked on a hill facing downwards at a fairly steep angle and I was also adjacent to power line clear cut in which a round could fly a ways without hitting a tree.

If it was intentional, my guess is they were trying to hit my radiator to strand me out there. That would have been a very long hike out.

Yes, I did notify ODFW. Not much they could do unfortunately

At least the Forest Service will record the incident, hopefully. Unfortunately people think they own public lands.

Weird, the cost of the hood seems like a bargain and the paint job the rip off, granted, I have no basis for comparison.

Ha I thought the $$ distribution was odd too.

Cost was in line tho - my basis of comparison was the 4 quotes I received to do the work.

Had it been a .45-70 monolithic copper it would have gone in one end and out the other ;).
Really, it hard for me to believe that was intentional but nowadays, dunno :annoyed:.

Yea or a stray handgun round.

I heard lots of gunshots that day, both rifles & pistols. Spend some time in Iraq looking for yellowcake and you’ll quickly learn to hear the difference.

I don't think that was intentional. I'd say that was a stray shot from an exceptional long distance or a ricochet.

If someone was going to shoot your truck, they would have put it through the radiator into the block.
