We're just trying to throw out some ideas. Don't want your friend to spend hard earned money for a PRO that's best suited to be left stock (suspension wise) for him to regret it down the line when there are simple solutions. I agree there are a ton of dicks on tacomaworld and most posts are trashed with "it's not Friday" or "part out" etc...

If he wants to lower a PRO for the hell of it, just say it.

But if he's trying to make it easier to get into a truck that's only a tad higher than his previous truck there are plenty of aftermarket running boards that hang lower. I suggested the motorized units so he didn't have to sacrifice ground clearance. During your winter months, I'm sure the motorized running boards can be set in the deployed position so getting frozen won't be a concern.

 

Just my honest reaction ...

Difficulty stepping up into a truck because of leg issues would make me wonder about driving ability altogether, unless fitted with hand controls. Many times I see grandma or grandpa taking 10 minutes to shuffle across a parking lot into their vehicle and intending to drive ... leaves me wondering how safely they can control their pedals.

But your friend thinks he can, so continuing with that assumption ...

Buying a high clearance vehicle knowing climbing is hard requires expecting to pay for later adaptions. Many what I call "ghetto cruisers" are trucks lowered to 4 inches ground clearance, and those hydraulic bouncy things can drop the vehicle then raise up again have been installed for years. Both compromise the off-road ability of a truck I would assume.

I would accept this mixed use and just do as others say and pay for the hydraulic side-steps that drop then raise back up. High-clearance and minimal step up.

 

I'm assuming the cerebral palsy is preventing him from stepping up and then stepping up again to get into the truck. He might only be able to slide in from a lower height.

Besides the suggestion that @Gatafly suggested, I'm pretty sure the SOS lowering kit is the only one available. Heck, selling the Pro front shocks will pay for the kit.

Here's a pic from the SOS website. It's already been done. I don't mind one bit if someone buys a Pro, and drops it. It's his truck, and he can do what he wants. "Removing barriers" includes putting a disabled person into a bad-ass Pro, and all thanks to SOS for making that kit happen. It doesn't matter if someone is disabled from cerebral palsy, or if they're a wounded veteran. Rock that truck because you can!

Can you blame the guy he stated clearly his friend had cerebral palsy then the back benchers started to chirp up as usual. Kinda shows you why our country is in such shit shape a little empathy goes a long way try to walk in someone else’s shoes kinda thing.

 

I have seen my share of disabilities (age and disease related) in my family. I am not unsympathetic, just have learned to be more practical about dealing with the situation. My father even decided to stop driving as time went on because of issues it posed ... first at at night, later stopped driving at all.

 

Some think we are being insensitive. And while I may be on the verge of being numb to even my future possible incapacities, I tried not to be cruel. Sometimes I cannot be sure.

 

Maybe have a fab shop rig up a step for the driver's side?

 

There's not much to that kit so the price seems right to me.

That kit is also not compatible with the front pro fox coilovers. It uses lowering spring seats for the other oem size coilovers. Even if you had someone make custom spring seats for the pro fox to lower it it would be riding in the firmer bypass zones. I really don't see any good options to lower the pro without changing the coilovers.

Another thing to think about is the pro is now +1.5 in front and +1.0 in the rear compared to the OR or Sport so just going back to a standard height suspension may just be enough for him to get in easier.

As far as the 2wd vs 4wd on lower that 2" shouldn't make a difference. It's still riding in its original travel range.
