The tune doesn't change the algorithm, only the variables within.

Everything else, I agree with you 100%. The PC cannot directly control the throttle, it (basically) creates its own signal that the ECU still has to interpret.

Why would be a delay on fast speed CAN?

Bruh. You have had too much to drink. That’s exactly what I said you just made the example more complex.

I’m also not arguing tune vs. PC. I’ve had PC, ShiftSense, PC + ShiftSense, and tune. No question the tune is better. But for people that don’t want a tune PC/ShiftSense is a good middle ground.

My main point was the PC isn’t just a brick on your foot. It does make a significant difference. You see to agree on this point though.

I'll chime in and add another variable to the mix. A tune is the best way to go. I've been nervous about the tune because of my warranty. May be an issue and may not be. I had a PC on my 2020 OR. Yes it helped with the throttle response. But something about it just never set right with either me or the truck. So I sold it and bought a Sprint Booster. For me, it seems smoother and more responsive than the PC. Minor difference but enough to notice.

The only output from PC is a voltage on sensor 1 and sensor 2 wires to ECU
    Tacoma accel position sensors voltage:
    Sensor 1 Released position 0.5 to 1.1 v
    Depressed position 2.6 to 4.5
    Sensor 2 Released 1.2-2.0 v
    Depressed 3.4- 4.75 v
What PC does is amplifying the Voltage for both sensors to ECU.
For example, 14% of accel is 1.152 volts on S1 and 1.933 on S2. PC bumps the voltage by whatever % for its driving modes, resulting in a higher requested/commanded votage to throttle.
CAN network diagram for accelerator position sensor. There are 6 wires (3 per sensor) . Output, ground and ECU supplied voltage

Cancel the order and buy a Banks pedal monster. Way better, safer and mostly made in the US and A.

Not true. My Tacoma will burn the tires with the Banks PM. If I unhook it, no amount up force on the pedal will brake lose the tires.

You should know WTF your taking about before you give a wrong opinion.

The tune a few of y'all mentioned. Is it the OV tune that's been around a while or is there something newer. I watched one YT vid of a dude installing/flashing the OV tune and he mentioned having to run a higher octane gas.

During the winter here in FL I drive from my place to Ormond Beach everyday. It's a 52 mile round trip with 40 miles being on I-95. I usually drive a minimum of around 82 MPH. Average RMP is 2000 to 2200.

Would a tune help with gas mileage? If I had to buy more expensive gas I doubt it would pay off.

Right. I don’t why you are arguing the PC doesn’t do anything. This post you just explained how it works and unknowing or not admitted it does work.

    I don't think he's arguing "it doesn't do anything".

He showing in very simple terms (straight out of the service manual) that all the PC or any such device CAN do is alter an analog voltage coming out of the accelerator pedal position sensor before it reaches the ECM.

For a given gas pedal angle, output of the accelerator position sensor is going to be in the stated DC voltage range. The PC is going to take that DC voltage and alter it.

It's not really magic at all.

Yeah, it "works". It's literally tricking the ECM by giving it inputs that you as the driver are not actually doing.

Edit: You're still limited by the ECMs determination of "the appropriate throttle angle" for a given mashing of the gas. Check these maps out:

    ATRTA.jpg

    PTET stock.jpg

There are more, including a different torque map for every gear (in the M/T), including reverse!

For me, the PC and/or Sprint Booster and/or any other similar device does make a difference with throttle response. How it works really doesn't matter. It makes the gas pedal more responsive and more like what I've been used to all my life. Period for me. I don't care that I don't know the mechanics or electronics of how it works. That applies to many things in my world. I don't know how they all work, I just know they do work. :)

Fuck, I think I will send it back, last thing I need is something to go wrong 8 months later......
How reliable are these long term on the vehicle ?

Buddys truck went into limp mode after about 6-7 months of using PC. Removed it and all good.

Tune improves throttle response and actually adds power, much better choice IMHO.
