My friends in University used to tell me I missed my calling as a draftsman, the one drafting course we took I finished all the exams at the halfway mark, skipped 30% of the classes and still got an A+. My co-workers at my 2nd job after University told me my drawings were "too good". They thought I spent too much time on them, lol. Little did they know I can bang them out fast af.

Yep the washer tank which my buddy is already working on. He's going to start on it this week and he's charging me $275 including materials so that's really reasonable.

Man I might be of the elder millennial generation and we still use inches half the time. In University we used a mix of metric and imperial.

Went on a road trip to Grande Prairie which is about 450km north of Edmonton. There were some really bad stretches of road with whoops and I was seriously anxious about my front suspension holding together since I basically designed the struts myself. I guess no one is spending all that oil and gas royalties to fix the highways up there.

Seeing some of the chauch boys in their lifted diesel trucks with stacked spacers and tiny wheels rolling coal while racing at lights was pretty amusing. I didn't have a chance to go toe to toe with any of them though.

At one point a big ol' F250 was preparing to cut me off via a merge lane so I pinned it by him. I wasn't trying to show off, just get out of his way before he became an inconvenience. I guess he thought I was indeed showing off and he zoomed by me once I got to the speed limit then went over a bump and a load of dirt and rocks fell off his truck. I swerved to avoid most of it. No serious damage from what I can tell. Good thing my windshield is already gone to shit.

That's a good deal for sure! Looking forward to seeing how that turns out. I believe methanol is corrosive to aluminum, so you might keep an eye on the type of fluid you use in it, as i bet yall have some strong stuff up north.

That's strange! I wish we were on the metric system lol, the imperial system is so damn confusing

100% sounds like Grand Prairie. I only spent a night out there once years ago but hanging out in a pub gave me a pretty good idea of the level of knuckle draggers that exist there.

Ah ya. I feel like a bad engineer now because I didn't check the compatibility of water/methanol with aluminum. I looked online and there are a few forums that have useless anecdotes, but a few research papers that say it's fine and a couple that say it's not. I might have to get these things internally coated at a shop, I'll have to do more research and let you guys know what I come up with.

I will check my fuel cell in the back of the truck that's always filled with methanol/water to see if there's any signs of corrosion there.

Did you manage to get the broken off piece of stud out of your block? Get the replacement stud yet with shipping that cost twice as much as the stud?

I wonder how that tensioner bracket could be shored up to relieve a bit of the stress on the studs? I had an idea for joining the two stud spacers together, which would probably help but I don't think it would be enough to really fix the problem. I think the tensioner bracket itself would need something stronger but it really looks limited for ways to beef up the mounting other than possibly that thin metal bracket piece on the side.

    Thoughts?

Interesting, a redesign of the static system could be something to look into for the future - I was thinking about that little tertiary bracket on the side too, if I can beef that up to prevent the destruction of the crank pulley and idler.

Yes - my friend and I finally got the end of the stud out of the block. I had to buy a new welder too, which was an annoying expense. Fortunately I found one at CT for half off, it can even take gas if I want, but it already makes quite a bit better welds to begin with.

It was a bit of a frustrating evening on Thursday trying to weld a nut on the couple of millimeters that were sticking out, but we got it. I was interested in getting some titanium replacements made but since that was going to run me huge dollars, I ultimately decided on:

    1. get a 60mm class 8.8 bolt (m10x1.25) so I can at least put the accessory belt back in and drive the truck while I wait for more parts,
    2. @XPOTRPR kindly sent me some RIK studs so I can get the SC going again,
    3. ordered some M10 bolts that are 200mm long, class 12.9 so I can cut the threads and the head off them and thread the ends. I originally was looking at titanium, but couldn't have threaded those myself and based on an article I read on titanium, they may not be great for fatigue especially when threaded.

I am going to do a big post once I get the NST pulley and replacement idler showing the start to end of the whole fix.

I suppose I should ask actually - would grade 12.9 bolts be threadable by hand? @XPOTRPR

Good excuse to upgrade the welder then.

The cut down m10 Bolts might be a good idea, wonder if they'd provide more strength or not.

If that bracket was thicker it may just provide enough torsional stiffness to relieve some force on the stud. Wonder how much thicker it could be made and still clear the belt and I honestly don't remember how that bracket attaches to the block and what kind of clearance for that.

When I do my radiator change I may just pull that bracket off. If it could be replicated with even a 1/4" thick piece of flatbar bent into the right shape that would probably help a bunch.

Something I'll take a crack at if I have time.

Nice. We'll be famous and make it to Page 1 of the SC thread!

Let's make something from billet if possible! Sorry.. getting ahead of myself. Lol. Let me know about that bracket tho.

As far as threading 12.9.. I'm not sure. We dont a ton of threading by hand.. mostly machined and then maybe just chasing to depth or the like. @prise.. you know how 12.9 would be? In fact.. maybe he can actually help with this project. His is the current project I'm working on at work, so maybe he can do something useful in the meantime. :D lol

Installed my bling water meth tank. Waiting for parts for the SC tensioner stud fix so it was a good time to bang it in. I love it, it's making the rest of my engine bay look bad tho.

I had my friend weld in a sump as well since it's shorter than the Snow tank.

That looks really interesting - if I hadn't just bought and modified my new Hurst, I might have seriously looked into it.

I measured my shift throw and it's just over 2.5 inches - not bad, driving it I don't feel like I need any more or less. What's yours at?

Thought that the unmodified Hurst was about 50% shorter? I was driving with my friend in his stock shifter Tacoma a bit ago and it was like a tractor shift throw lol at least compared to mine
