I guess neither the Ford Ranger, nor the Gladiator, nor the updated GM Twins, nor the Ridgeline, nor the Bronco, nor the New Frontier, nor the Yadda yadda, was actually a “Tacoma Killer” as purported.

Why do they ugly-up E-vehicles? My guess would be to stand out and lack of styling, the minimalist look.

I'm very rural and this is F150 central so I don't see many other Tacoma's. That will probably change if ford keeps shitting on it's loyal customers like it has been.
I keep seeing ford guys sniffing around my Tacoma at work and then claiming they don't like it.

   .

So true. I actually test drove a Frontier and liked it. But I can't get past the looks of the thing from the outside. The Taco has character and is CLEARLY identified as a Taco, even from a distance. I've always loved the looks of every generation of them. In my opinion, the Ranger exterior looks fairly good too.....if I was in the market for a Ford....which I wasn't. I think the Taco looks better, period. I was also dead set on getting one while Toyota didn't screw it up yet by messing around with a new engine and putting a turbo in it. My neighbor just bought a 2023 Silverado with that 2.7T GM is putting in those. That sucker is nice....and fast. But I'm just waiting for it to blow up. Do you know those idiots actually put AFM (deactivates cylinders) on a four banger? AFM has been a nightmare for many GM 5.3L owners. My 2012 Sierra is a 5.3, but I've had that shit deactivated since the truck had about 5,000 miles on it and today it runs like new at 110,000 miles. My son is a mechanic and has almost a full time business replacing flat AFM lifters in GM 5.3s. Many he's working on are "just outside" of the factory warranty. Two weeks ago it was a 2017 with about 75K miles on it....dropped AFM lifter cyl 7. (TICKING TIME BOMB) and bent pushrod.

A buddy of mine preferred the looks of the tacoma, but in the end he was fed up with all the short comings, and gremlins his 2019 had. He ended up with the frontier, and for first time in 5 years I've never seen him that happy with a truck. I get reminded every time he stops by how great it is.

Funny how the redesigned Ranger came out looking like a Tacoma.
Same thing with the Canyon, and Colarado.
Now they've got the ass all jacked up, looking like a cat in heat. LOL

No money, all went to truck...
Tacoma is the epitome of "Japanese." Never will it be the fanciest truck with the most bells and whistles. It will never stand out over all the other trucks. Instead what you get is a solid, reliable, "under the radar" truck. And it's working for Toyota, they would rather base the truck on reliability than extravagance.

Tundras took a different route, I think because of a stronger "American" influence. So it's much fancier.

I am happy for him too this way one less Tacoma basher, I have had all 3 generations and never had any major problems or complaints about them. I guess your friend was unlucky with his 2019 and hope this Frontier does him well. just saying

A good friend of mine went down the Frontier pathway.

    First year of ownership:

    -New Rear diff.
-Engine pulled for rear main oil seal.
    -seized rear calipers.

So he sniffs around my Tacoma quite a bit.

My Tacoma reminds me of my Kawasaki KLR 650 motorcycle. Basic, proven rugged and reliable but also fun as hell to drive/ride! Kawasaki has been making the KLR 650 with just basic changes and upgrades for well over 30 years, and people love them. They are simple dual sport motorcycles that don't do anything perfectly but do all things very well and have a reputation of never breaking down. While their competition keeps coming out with better, faster flashier more expensive and loaded with technology bikes Kawasaki keeps chugging out KLR 650's and folks line up to buy them.

I had my 2009 KLR for 38,000 miles before I sold it to my friend and bought a 2022 KLR Adventure. I will have to get a picture of the 2 of them together.
