I want a GR ‘rolla. Waiting to see about the 4th Gen Tacoma. Happy I have a 2nd and 3rd Gen done the way I like. Zero interest in the cyber truck.

Here I was thinking that no one wanted to spend $80-100k+ on a suv.

I mean if off roading is your thing, then A Jeep Rubicon is kind of what people do in that price range. If driving around and saying you have a current 200 series (or whatever they’re on now) Landcruiser is your thing…well…

It’s a great little car. People complain about power but when you get it on a twisty backroad you don’t need any more. Great balance and very engaging manual. Plus an amazing steering feel that you usually don’t get until you reach a much higher price point.

A lot of my friends got interested in the GR86 because it's RWD, around $30k MSRP, manual, and lightweight. A good amount of my friends bought one/waiting for one and those who drove one liked it.

I'm glad Toyota makes the GR Corolla, after being sad hearing the GR Yaris won't be produced for the US market. It's great to see the GR Corolla as the Lancer EVO is long discontinued, then the Focus RS, and now the WRX STi.

Yup. I drove Tacomas for years. I didn’t even realize I was being constrained by a cult either.

After driving a GX460 on the same trails, I can say for sure that Land Cruisers are better off road and on road especially compared to Tacomas after 2016.

if the light duty LC 250/GX 500 is legit, I’ll consider it for my wife.

Tacoma 3rd gen already showed how much of a crap Toyota cares about there number one selling mid size truck. They don’t care at all. They rather pour millions into GR Corolla hatchback like it’s 1999. Who the wants that in this day an age?

That's the thing it ain't just about the power. I had more fun driving my S2000 compared to more powerful cars.

New means new, new does not mean good. The current Tundra is an example.

The difference between disk and drum rear brakes, and leaf and coil suspension, will not be noticeable for the vast majority of potential buyers and drivers. The talk of this new platform and in your words "dramatically change" dimensions and relationships is not the primary intent and will not be the case, nor should it be necessarily.

Toyota has done good when they focus on and deliver simplicity, reliability, and affordability.

Yeah but we're generally talking a 40k vehicle versus a 70k vehicle. That's 30k to pay for a lifetime of gasoline if you look at it that way.

The base model 4th Gen will be LUCKY to come in at 40. A loaded third gen ZR2 comes in around 54~, AT4X is about 8 more than that. At that point, you’re flirting with 1500 AT4 prices, or at least optioned out lower trims with the 5.3/6.2L gas engines or 3.0 Duramax.

I see it as fuel is a thing we gotta pay for, but if the economy frustrating, I’ll just get a bigger truck that can do more with similarly frustrating economy.

Respectfully disagree, I think the base model 4th will be less than $40k. I believe the fleet customers will demand it and it would be alot to jump the price +44%.

Also, they have to stay competitive

Just because the GR doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean others don’t want them. For the longest time (pre-chip shortage) you couldn’t find a Golf R, Civic Type R, Focus RS, or sometimes (new) STI on lots.

At $100 per fill up, 26 times a year (once every 2 weeks-ish), it would be about 11.5 years of gasoline, actually.

So if we’re talking dog years, then maybe closer to a “lifetime of gasoline”, I suppose.

You can also get the larger motors in lower trims, making the disparity even smaller. It’s just the model I’m looking at.

Every time I get curious and click on this thread I'm reminded of why I try to avoid it.
So many people just talking past each other to make a point on the internet, or talking crap about cars and technologies they've never experienced. When the truck actually hits showrooms then everyone can decide for themselves whether it's worth their money. I really hope this community doesn't get divided over stuff like coil springs and turbos.

Good for you. Keep driving your Lexus and pretending it’s a Land Cruiser.

you paid MSRP, you got screwed. That’s the beauty of dealers, I paid $2,900 under MSRP with no BS and no hard sell. If you pay over MSRP that’s on people for not doing their research. I’ll take the dealer experience and saving thousands vs knowing paid MSRP just like everyone else.

How long ago did you make this purchase for under MSRP?

That's why I point everyone here for official info. Everything until then is pure speculation. I don't care how many insiders at Toyota they know. But that's the internet. Free speech forum.
