Hello! I know there have been tons of stereo threads... but I am in need of help by one of the stereo gurus here. I have a 2010 TRD offroad doublecab that came originally wth the JBL system. When I first got it, I replaced the speakers with the ones that the Tacomaholic video put in his, ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHJ95TTmFk8&t=77s )while upgrading to an Auradio 9" screen headunit. I now have really crappy sound. I haven't removed the subwoofer/amp. Now, what I am asking is...how do I make this setup work well? I have fuzzy sounding music, and the louder, the worse the distortion. From reading several threads on here already, it sounds like I need an amp, perhaps crossovers, etc, but I am not knowledgable enough to know what to buy. I have no problem spending some money, but don't want to buy stuff I don't need, either. I wouldn't mind replacing the subwoofer/ amp with something compatible, but I also don't want some giant box back there, having to remove the rear seats. I love the truck, and the headunit, other than the horrible quality sound. Please audio gods, help me out. I have even removed the interior and installed sound mat everywhere (headliner included) to get it quieter so I don't need to turn it up! ------Metalguy

By no means am I an expert, but integrating to the stock JBL system is probably the cause to your problems. I'd run your own new speaker wires and bypass the JBL amp altogether. I tried searching for an "Audradio" 9" stereo and it doesn't even come up on Google which tells me a few things. First and foremost most aftermarket Ali Express level stereos don't put out much power direct from the head. Either way it might still not be enough for your speakers but you'll have to research that on your own. If not enough power, might need a new amp.

AV forum with lots more expertise. Someone has certainly tried to do this before. Or try finding a local car audio store and ask them for help. Good luck and welcome to Tacoma World.

@wi_taco is 100% correct. Are you referring to Aucar radio by chance? If so, did you get the JBL specific model? If not, what you are doing is taking an amplified signal from the headunit, and sending it to the JBL amp to be amplified AGAIN!! A recipe for craptastic sound. Like wi_taco said, best bet is to run your own speaker wire to the doors, bypassing the JBL amp.

Yes, it is an Aucar. I did get the harness specific for the JBL system. As for running new wires...what does that mean? The wires that are in the truck aren't good enough? That doesn't make much sense. Bypassing and eliminating the JBL amp does make sense though.

Okay, so the JBL specific H/U is what you have. What we meant by “running new wires” is running new speaker wire from the Aucar to the speakers, but I don’t think that’s necessary. My guess is that it’s a wiring connector problem, there’s been a few connection problems with the Android units, so I’m going to give you a link below to an Android specific thread here, where guys will know more about the connections than me. Sorry I wasn’t of more help. Ask the same question there.

    For a “Tesla” style unit

This one sounds more like what you have, different brand(they’re all pretty much the same)

Hope the guys there can help.
