I must have missed the part where the 2nd Gen guys claimed their truck was better.
Pretty sure I was the first one to say MY truck would break. And I have a 2nd Gen.

Have we in the past claimed the 2nd Gen was “better”?.
Sure, because that’s all it takes to get some of the 3rd Gen guys tore up.
But in reality, they both break.

Just for the record, I've sunk more fun coupons into this truck than any other vehicle I've owned....and I'm not done yet.

I will say this forum almost made me fight with the dealership to get my money back on my deposit. All I saw was problems and endless complaints about everything. I was having major regrets about buying a Tacoma. I was starting to distrust the car media which always rates the Tacoma pretty highly.

After a month of ownership, I don’t know what it is but I really enjoy driving the truck everyday. I thought since it had been nearly 20 years since my last truck the only thing I would end up liking about the Tacoma would be the utility of it and just tolerate the driving part of it. However, driving it has been a joy, it’s no Civic Si or luxury vehicle but it’s comfortable and predictable and does everything it should with no fuss. And by my eye is a damn fine looking truck right out the box, and the aftermarket items to make it my own are endless.
In the end I am very happy with my purchase and hopefully it will be as reliable as I have been led to believe Toyotas have been. Only time will tell but I have determined to not let the forum make me question everything on the truck. I will just enjoy it while I can and use to forum to provide information as I need. There is plenty of good information on the forum as well as all the negativity.

Yeah, I was almost second-guessing my deposit as well after reading through a lot of the forum. But then again, visit Ranger and Frontier forums.....same deal. I enjoy driving the Taco as well and after 8 days of ownership, I know I made the right decision. What I'm really shocked about is how quiet it is rolling down the road. I wasn't prepared for that. My last Taco was a Prerunner 4 cyl many year ago. My 2012 GMC Sierra Z71 4x4 Crew Cab is dead quiet and I was worried the Taco couldn't match it for that. I was wrong.

As concerning as all the 2GR-FKS engine failures documented here recently may be, it's not like the previous engines have been trouble-free. How many 3.4s threw a rod under 100,000 miles? How many 4.0s blew their head gaskets? It's hard to say.

I will always find it puzzling they didn't just keep the 4.0 in the Tacoma though like they did in the 4runner, though.

I'm thinking the same. Last summer, my girlfriend accidentally dinged my passenger side door. I'm not sure what scrap value my truck even has at this point. Probably just tear it down and sell the remnants here.

Its not even about which gen is the better built truck.. It's the "one up" mentality of consumerism that has been driven by manufacturers preying on the American sheeple. My car is better than yours, my house is bigger than yours, I make more money than you, my phone takes better pictures than your phone, my wife is hotter than yours, my kid is smarter than your kid. Fact is everyone wants to feel they made a better choice than the other person. Makes them feel smart.

To them I say live your life and shut the F#ck up.

I wasn't sure if I liked the 3rd gen or second gen better, so I bought a second gen just in case. Imma park it next to my 2020 and see if they start fighting or if some sort of weird tacoma offspring comes out of it. Maybe a go kart or something.
