Lifting new tacoma amd warrenty

I just purchased a new 2023 tacoma and would like to put a 3.5 in lift on it with 285/55/20 tires. Does anyone have first hand experience on this . I know I can always ask a dealer but when push comes to shove will they still honor the drive train warranty. I can understand not honoring the front suspension components but my main concern is the transmission warranty. Never off road and only driven maybe 2,000 miles a year. Will not be a drop bracket lift. Thanks to anyone with first hand experience.

My 2021 is lifted 2 inches with eibach struts and springs (installed by me) and I've been in for warranty work with out any issues. If you want 3.5 inches the oem lift someone else recommended is only 2 inches and way overpriced

 

May throw the front radar out of alignment and dealer may not recalibrate it for an aftermarket lift

 

At 2000 miles a year your warranty will be up before you have any issues.

 

What kind of work? Any warranty related to the suspension or driveline is easy for a dealership to decline coverage for if they wanted to. Modifications don’t throw the entire warranty out the window, just the potentially affected components.

Everything is potentially affected when it comes to denying a warranty.

 

If you get an oil leak, or an engine sensor fails, or your window stops rolling up, etc… within the warranty period, they aren’t going to deny fixing problems like those because you have a lift. It won’t void your whole warranty blanket-style. If anything, a lift it could void the warranty on parts that failed that are directly related to your lift (CV axels, ball joints, etc...). If your

They are not going to deny something like a failed window regulator, or a coolant temp sensor because you have a suspension lift. They’re not people. This place.

 

Cool. It was a semi serious joke. Thanks for the info though. They are actually people - as in actual people that make the call to warranty or not. It’s not like it’s advanced AI or robot that decides.

I’ve had completely unrelated items denied warranty. In the end they lost way more money than if they would have just replaced the part. So I’m okay with it.

 

Why risk it?

Do you really want to be in the situation where some warranty work costs a few thousand dollars and you’re giving the dealership the chance to deny covering it just so you can sit a few inches higher? I’ve seen people get denied warranty work due to aftermarket lifts.

I’d wait until your warranty expires and then do whatever you want.

This is great info but OP stated "never off road" so don't think suspension travel will be a big concern.

Dealer could absolutely void a transmission warranty for those mods. With that lift and tire size you're technically putting more strain on the drivetrain components. But if you're only driving 2,000 miles a year then your chance of needing warranty work on the transmission is very low.

 

with those specs, I think you are creating a lot of risks, with little reward (just looking good at the local car cruise). If you are absolutely not going to off road, why go macho man lift and tires?
