New member here from the Yukon (Borders Alaska on the east) Couple years ago I bought a 1 owner 2002 extended cab TRD 4x4, standard transmission. The owner had completed a lot of work including new clutch, brakes, ect..intending on keeping this truck forever. He then came into an inheritance and decided to sell his Tacoma and buy a new one. I bought it and I love it. I want to put a small camper on it. Does anyone know if there is a camper made to fit between the wheel wells? The width between the wells are 40.75, really hard to find up here.

Are you looking for a slide-in style camper? Iirc there's a few companies that made them back in the day, they're pretty rare now tho. One of my friends lives in a pop-up in the bed of her taco, I can ask her what brand it is.

they were super helpful when i was shopping for a camper for my full size truck.
there are a few models that have long since been discontinued but may still be available used like a sun lite pop up or livin lite camp lite

or you can go the route of a flip-pac, wildernest or go fast camper type that is just a topper/shell with an integrated roof top tent. then you can configure the bed of the truck with whatever else you need for your camping

Thank you. Overload for sure. I have experience with Truck and Camper, and have overload springs for the Tacoma if I need them. The old school campers are to heavy. Import campers and callapsible campers are much lighter, but again hard to find for the 40" wheelwell width. Most of them are made for the 2nd, 3rd generation Tacoma. I may have to get a shell custom built then finish it on the inside myself.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Thankfully, a shell is working well for me. F136848F-C569-4998-A9C5-8B906B585558.jpg

Thanks, yes I've checked those out, most if not all of them are made for the 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma, as far as the used market is concerned. I'm thinking now of taking the box off and putting a deck on to get some extra floor space and an extra foot in length

What is that you call a topper in the photo? Like a hard top tent?

Yes, they did. Here is my old setup. Although if you want to do any sort of 4x4 you will want something like a GoFastCamper. Slide in campers are not good for anything other than highways and parking lots.

I love this setup. Where did you get the camper/ how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? Also if you don't use it anymore I'll buy it off you ;)

I bought it for 1500 CAD, put some work into it and sold it for a lot more. It was made in the 70s by a now long out of business company in BC.
