Thing is, how many that have had serious engine, or other drivetrain issues were exceptionally hard on the way they were used?

Doesn’t have to be the way it’s used but it can be. But like the coolant crossover pipe issue, it’s a plastic pipe and they probably had a batch where either the molding had a weak spot or the plastic composition was wrong or maybe a weakness in the original design. It’s a quality control failure and not any fault of the driver. But the amount out there that will fail is low. There would be a recall or a class action suit if it wasn’t.

People are more likely to complain than praise.
Plus you have a larger community with 3rd gens compared to 1st and 2nd, the numbers have grown greatly
On top of that people always look at the past as better than it was.
Just wait till the 4th gen comes out

The only thing we know for certain is 2G Tacomas are butt ugly, with Sharkfin-motif fenders, and 3G Tacomas have manly, testosterone-fueled, squared-off fenders.

Every time a 2G Tacoma gets written off I say a little prayer of thanks, so I don’t have to look at those fenders anymore.

Rumor has it all 2g models came with a glass of soy milk

I'm glad my 3rd gen came with a gun, tub of preworkout and thin blue line sticker

If the 2G looks bother you, it's going to be a loooong decade as the 4G looks like it's got a ballcap on backwards. If they delete the rear bumper and extend the length of the tailgate to make it look like saggy pants, they'll have nailed the look!

I have both. I think the gen 2.5(12-15) is better looking than a 3rd gen. But the 3rd gen is better looking than the earlier 2nd gens 05-11.

Your opinion on looks means nothing when it comes to reliability. I rather have a slightly less better-looking truck than one that sits at the dealer with a $4k timing cover or cyl head repair at only 65k miles:anonymous:

Fenders are everything to me. I met all three of my present wives by posting picks of my 3G fenders.

I'll take the funky fenders over misaligned beds and rear bumpers. That shit drives my OCD nuts.

Yeah, what is it with those ugly fenders on the gen2, especially the bed ones? I was so glad toyota cleaned up the looks of them on the gen3.

You don't know how those trucks were owned. The 3.5 engines that have cylinder issues, or leaks at a buddies auto shop have not been related to just tacoma's, but in other Toyotas vehicles to, just about all of them reported to be rather abused by his standards.

I can understand that but plenty of people on here with the same issues who claim they don't abuse their trucks and do frequent oil changes.

Even with an engine ran hard, no oil leaks should happen so early on. It's a flaw in the 3.5 engine that can happen to any Tacoma(or Toyota) regardless of Maintenace or how it was driven. Same with the cyl head issue.

Toyota has the 3.5 is some performance car applications. The motor should be able to be beat on and not leak at such low milage.

A timing cover leak at 150k wouldn't bother me but at 60k is BS.
