Hi, I just bought a set of bilstein 4600 front coils about a week ago and installed them yesterday, everything seemed to be fine until I noticed this morning that when the truck hits a bump it sounds like theres metal on metal coming from the front. I checked it by having some friends stand on one side of the truck and shake it to see what was happened and there seems to be some movement between the upper bushing and upper mount. I used the stock coil spring and mounted it on the 4600s because its just supposed to be a stock replacement part. Ive triple checked the instructions and even pulled out both shocks to retighten and check the positioning of everything, and its still having the same issue, I have no idea what i did wrong.

It does the same thing on both sides of the truck, I feel really stupid cause im sure it’s something really small that I missed but I can’t find it and there aren’t a lot of videos or posts online that I can find

Not sure if this applies to 4600, but on 5100 and 6112 bilstein there is a spacer that some people miss. Sometimes this spacer is part of the dust cover (blue part of the 4600).

Bilstein calls it a rod adapter.

Rod adapter shown in pictures below.

I've got a 3rd gen, but it looks like your top bushing isn't squished as far as it should be? Can you tighten the top nut any more? I see you state you've pulled them and checked, I'm not trying to second guess you, just an observation -

Looks like 4600 does have a spacer that sits in the dust boot. If that's missing, you will have this issue.

You will need to disassemble the coilover to inspect what is missing. Maybe upload some photos once it's taken apart.

I wanna say that rubber bushing goes underneath the upper shock mount not on top like that. Maybe I’m wrong. I remember two pieces being sandwiched top and bottom.

There are two rubber bushings. One goes under the top mount. Then one above it, how OP has it. The one under the top mount is usually glued/bonded to the top mount.

    OME and worth every penny.
When I bought OME shocks they forgot to include boots and it did this, has to be rod adapter or something missing on boot. Anyway, sorry but it will have to come back apart.

Thanks guys, I think it may be a missing bushing, I reused the old top mounts and they seemed kinda shot but I figured they might still be good to use.
