Was installing some Bilstein 6112s on my truck. Was able to get the passenger side done no problem. Went to go do the drivers side an I couldn't get the spring to compress symmetrically enough to get to seat the strut mount properly and torque the lock nut. Thinking it was compressor that was crappin out, I brought it to my mechanic to see if he could compress it.

After getting home and inspecting the coilover, it looked pretty weird to me. The spring looks like its not properly seated on the strut and that its not centered on it either.

Anyone ever seen this before? Is the spring deformed?

The spring isn’t seated properly. You’ll have to pull it apart to see but you want to check if the coil end is flared out a bit. The metal gets deformed when the coils are made and there is a smalle edge that interferes with the ID size and how it fits on the seat. You can take a file or a grinder and round off the inner edge to get them to sit right. It’s unfortunately common on aftermarket springs.
