Probably a non-issue on the timing belt, I just wouldn't feel good about throwing boost at something without a timing chain. But yeah the lack of clutch options is the real kicker. I am not sure how it compares to the 4.0. I think the 4.7 is somewhere in the 275hp/300ft lbs in stock form.

If i was going to swap in a toyota v8, it would probably be the 4.6 out of the newer lexus gx460's. From what i've read, they have a forged crank and rods from the factory, so all you would really need is some forged pistons and valvetrain upgrades and then you would have something solid to build on. Of course, then you'd have to figure out how to stuff a manual behind it..

Are you still planning on going with the LS swap? when is that supposed to begin?

Thanks buddy you’re a wealth of knowledge!

The road trip for SunSet TX will leave early on Friday the 14th. and fly back on the 17th.

Then I’m going to have to get serious about selling the Magnuson, 2TR and transmission. Looks like I’m really going to lose my @$$ because the vendor sold me the Magnuson at their cost $3,032 and believe it or not I have over $800 in the Snow #3 water/meth system buy time I keep purchasing parts, fittings & breaded lines that didn’t come with the kit. I should have got the #2.5 system because it works with boost. The #3 works with both RPM & Boost. Plus it would have been less if I would have just pieced it together. It adds up fast!!

Sure thing, happy to help when I can.

that’s awesome you’ve got it scheduled! Sounds like it’s happening :bananadance:

oh believe me I can totally relate to that, that stuff starts adding up in a hurry, and by the time you revise it a couple times to get it perfect, it’s way more than initially anticipated. Are you keeping the Haltech for your other Tacoma? I still think the need for tuning has kept people from pulling the trigger. That aspect of things can definitely be intimidating

Yea but it needs tuned again because sometimes it won’t idle, the RPM’s drop down so slow that it dies.
Plus if i included the Heltech I would ask what it would cost for me to purchase a new Heltech.
It’s the only thing I got a really good deal on! So the buyer would get a better deal if they purchased new tuning.
I might just keep the Supercharger and put in the 05. I will call Gabe and if he can turn the supercharger on 87 I might just keep it. It has a #4 nozzle and starts to spray at 2 lbs. Maybe put in a smaller nozzle and have it spray at 0 lbs. and run max boost at 4 or 5 lbs. After Gabe tuned it with the Heltech I’ve only seen just over 8 lbs a couple of times…

Saw that this weekend. It should most likely an argon/co2 mix. Last MIG it tried with pure argon, came out very ugly. There is also flux core stainless wire. Which then you wouldn't need any gas shielding. It does weld a bit differently though.

Did some more heat minimization prep and finished up the down-pipe and wrapped it today. Seems to fit pretty well compared to the old one. I opted for PTP’s Quartz exhaust wrap this time since it’s good for higher temperatures even though it’s a little bit lighter in color. It’s good for 2000*F continuous and 3000*F peak. The lava wrap I had previously was good for 1500*F continuous and 2000*F peak temps.

That's always the way it happens with first time jobs. By the end you have the feel for things, made your mistakes, and know how to do the job better lol.

Took some time today to shorten my midpipe to make my two v6 catbacks compatible with this truck. Got the TRD catback with an extra borla proxs muffler on there to start. It sounds pretty good and quite similar to the 3” catback I had on previously. I’m interested to see what the aFe sidepipes for the v6 sound like!

    Robert,
    I hate you. LOL
    God I have two Magnaflow’s, a 5 x 8 x 14 body w/ 2.5” in & out and a 5 x 11 x 22 body w/ 2.5” in & out with a turndown at where the rear bumper and bedside meet and the supercharger still drones…

Lol from what i've found, superchargers make the engines much much louder.. The turbo quiets things down quite a bit. This same exhaust is much much louder and has some drone on my supercharged v6.

Truth ^^^ I chambered muffler can help with drone. As well as various exhaust tuning devices. As in a Hemholtz resonator, for example.
