There's a difference in spending money to spend money, and spending a little extra to get additional benefit, especially in lower-end of the spectrum mountain bikes. Parts wear out quicker, generally are heavier, and can potentially be hard to source replacement parts for. I've been bit by this in the past. If you go too cheap, they can legitimately be a safety issue but we aren't talking that class of bike here. $800ish seems to be the transition from clunker to reliable; $1K gets you a pretty surefire used first steed, or long term ride for a more casual rider, though a diamond in the rough can be found with your aforementioned patience.

Don't get it twisted though, I'm an accountant; In no way am I advocating spending money you don't have if you have more pressing priorities at home, family needs, etc. I applaud the financial restraint, because MTB can get absurd quick if you have the pockets. I'm just a guy on the internet though, do what you feel is right for you, just trying to provide some helpful input on his topic.

This is def a true statement though.

    Hey there Utahns

I'm heading out to SLC in June/July for a hiking/camping trip and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions? Looking for about 15-25 mile 2-day hike. A mountain summit is a plus as well. It doesn't have to be in SLC either, willing to travel around if needed too. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

There are a plethora of options, but trying to pull one off the top of my head seems impossible

I’m sure if you do a google search you’ll definitely get a 1/2 billion hits. Better yet, try Chat GPT 4 and report back.

Anyone else’s vehicle get trashed from all the salt this winter? My rig is looking harsh. My coil overs look especially crappy.

    not enough.
Hmmm. Try looking for lone peak or Mt timp. Depending on how fit you are. Be wary of altitude sickness if you're coming from Florida. Give it a few days to acclimate.

Also the Uintas are full of summits you can try. Be wary of bears and the temps are lower there so be prepared.

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with these on a 3rd gen. Like supporting semi-local just trying to find some reviews.

A couple of years ago I bought my first full suspension bike. I have been riding dirt bikes for 15+ years on tight technical stuff, but about four years ago I sold my bike and wanted to get into the mtn bike scene.

One of my friends told me about Fezzari. They are a direct to consumer brand and are here in Utah (Provo). I checked them out and bought my first bike from them.

I spent about $2400 with all the upgrades, but I think if I would have bought a similiar bike from a big brand, it would have been $3500-4000 for a similarly spec'd bike. I didn't want to 'break the bank' with a first full suspension bike and wanted to make sure I enjoyed mtn biking.

Needless to say, I have stuck with it and I will probably upgrade to a different fezzari model, or do a custom build.

I used to race BMX when I was a kid and then dirt biking took over. Did some desert racing back in the day, but mostly single track riding until I sold my bike.

I have had all brands of bikes (Honda, kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM). My KTM was by far the best bike as long as you kept up with maintenance. They cost an arm and a leg over other brands, but you don't have to do anything to them besides putting on a larger gas tank.

Gonna have to keep waiting...I am so over the snow...we are supposedly going to get a huge storm again tonight through Tuesday. They are forecasting up to 18 inches for the benches and a foot in most valley locations north of Provo...ugh!

I was just wondering if you've ever thought about a BMX size bike as a trail bike? Have you ever been riding your full size mountain bike and wondered about using something smaller and more agile?

Looking for clubs or classes that offer recovery training. I'm in Orem. Saw this outfit in Erda called Legacy... Didn't see any pricing. Anyone know anything about em?

Yeah, that weekend in Bellingham stoked that feeling, and now its an itch I can't scratch. I was already riding Rush for 2 weeks at this point last year!

Think about this one…probably going to look at it tonight or tomorrow. Seem like a good deal?
Anything specific I should look out for/check?
