Hey,….did you figure it out? I have a similar wobble in the 5 lug truck I just got 2 weeks ago. Replacing the blown shocks this week to see how that helps. Replaced the tires last week. Does yours have original Taco wheels? Mine came with Mustang GT 17”x8” wheels and I’m wondering if that’s causing an issue. Thanks and hope you got it sorted.

Hi! Thanks for reviving the old thread. After replacing a lot of parts on my truck, here's what I found. Just for a bit of info, I have a 5 lug 08 AC. Here is the timeline:

-I took the truck on a roadtrip right after my separation from the military, first time I noticed shake and wobble.
-Had the wheels balanced on the trip, no fix
-Came home, put on new General AT43s, mount and balance, better but no fix
-Replaced rear shocks and front struts/shocks, better but no fix
-Replaced rear shoes since they were uneven wear, stopped better but no fix
-Replaced u-joints and carrier bearing yesterday, better but no fix

Today, after my dad and I were scratching our heads on what the shake could be at this point, I remember the two times I got my tires balanced and faintly remember both of the techs saying that one rim in particular was extremely hard to balance and one even saying it was bent. I noticed one rim had way more weight on it than the others, so I took it off and replaced it with the spare. Both my dad and I took it on a test drive.

The problem seems to be a bent rim!!

I drive about 100 miles a day for work, so the real test will be tomorrow but the biggest improvement overall has been finding that bent rim. To me, having had the wheels balanced and rotated 3 times, plus having new tires installed on them, I thought there was no way the shake would feel the same having had that wheel all over the truck but it seems to be driving like a dream now. I will get back to you tomorrow and see what my findings are with the spare. If it is a bent rim, I think this is the perfect excuse to get new rims and enjoy my practically new truck at this point. Best of luck and expect an update tomorrow.

Dude, you have a gem of a truck now! I’m taking mine on the highway today. Hope the wobble is gone.

Let me know how the wobble is, it seems like the mustang wheels on your truck might be suspect. As far as my truck goes, this morning was like driving a cloud, all shakiness and wobble is gone, was definitely the rim. Although I was going to allow myself to make this an excuse to get new rims, I actually found OEM ones for not too bad of a price on Rock Auto, so I am just buying just the one.

Please feel free to reach out to me or reply to this thread if you need any further help, this has been months of scratching heads and replacing parts and it was right under my nose this entire time. Best of luck to you and I hope you find the issue and make your truck drive like a Cadillac once again!

Good news. Replacing the tires, shocks, and wheel balancing has been a 90% improvement. There still something a little loose in the steering I believe. Will have it checked out. Going on my first outing soon. Hope to “ride on a cloud” also.
