    Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking to buy a 2001 Tacoma. The truck is being sold as-is in Canada. My plan is to park it in my backyard and fix what I can. I would love feedback on the frame rust before I drive 2+ hours to test drive it.

Would this need a whole new frame based on the pictures or does it have the potential to have SafeTcaps installed? Any feedback is appreciated!

Unless that thing is $500 and you’re prepared to utilize it as a lawn ornament, I would pass.

No way I would drive 2 hours to look at that rusty truck.

That’s fair lol. The thing is I love the gen 1 tacomas and they seem to be unicorns around here. I searched online province wide and this is the only gen 1 I could find.

That's probably because they've rusted away into nothingness and this one is not far behind.

Gonna have to head south to where 1st gens are still a-plenty, not sure how much of a headache it is to bring one over the border but in the southwest states you can find them with no rust at all. But the prices will reflect it

Noooooo. Then it will rust away in the great white north and further inflate prices!

That’s not a bad idea. I’m willing to fly somewhere and drive it back. I’ll look into import fees for that. Thanks!

It’s not just import fees. You have to deal with customs and a lot of red tape.

Research research research before you make a purchase.

Run away from that truck, don't walk, run. Also, I'm from BC and you're out to lunch if this is the only one you can find. There's so many for sale on craigslist/marketplace/kijiji.

At least you had the smarts to ask before purchasing it vs getting it and then asking for advice when it's too late

I'm sure you can find a truck with more rust closer to home if that's what your after.
