I'm assuming it's just plexiglass and I can drill right through it with a drill bit for metal, but looking for someone that has done it just to make sure I'm not about to ruin something. Thanx!

Yes, use tape on the surface to help prevent paint cracking.

Assuming it is plexi, you can still crack it pretty easily drilling into it. I'd verify what material it is, then use the correct method.

Why are you drilling a hole in the window?

Unless someone replaced it with plexiglass most shells come with safety glass (which you aren't drilling though). You can drill though plexiglass but as the other poster noted, it's really easy to crack it, especially the thinner stuff, and once it has a hole in it it's a lot more likely to crack in the future. There are videos online that show how; a step drill works or tape the site, use a sharp bit, go relatively slow and lubricate the bit. Make sure that you have something behind it as a backer, such as a piece of wood.

I wouldn't put anything in the hole that's going to vibrate or otherwise cause stress.

    Now we can read it.

It's usually glass and tempered glass at that. Can't be drilled. Verify before trying or you'll have an expensive mess on your hands.

Thanx everyone for the great info. Glad I asked the question. I’m trying to mount a couple of lights to the inside of the rear window. They’ll light up the inside when I’m sleeping/camping in the back, and will light up the campsite when the window is open. Going to experiment with double sided tape instead of drilling

I'd use this, best velcro type there is IMO. Look it up on Amazon
