I have 235/85/r16. Really impressed with the ride quality even though they are E rated. Much "softer" feeling than ko2s.

Let me ask the more knowledgeable members here about this.

would buying a load e tire that would last way more than a c or sl rated tire would be more economic on the long run knowing that it will impact mpgs?

    1. c load, same mpg replacing at 40-45k
    2. E load, mpg hit, replacing at 80k

I ask this because I am about to replace my wranglers with around 38k… I am pushing the limits on these already… Hoping to get at least 40k from them which to me seems low.. I always keep them with proper psi, rotated them and also rotated on the rim so outer edge of tire is evenly worn.. and despite this they seem to last 40k only?

Usually E rated tires have a harder/tougher compound.

I know for a fact that SL wildpeaks have got more silica then E rated, making the traction better but they do wear out quicker.

Also, E rated thread depth will always be a bit deeper vs SL.

I think 235's are way too skinny.

    I think so too.:)

IMHO 255s is already pushing it on these trucks.

I just put some 265/70r17's Wildpeaks on 8.5" width wheels on my sport. Have only driven on road so far. And since I put them on the weather gods are mocking me with a mostly snow-less winter now..

    Impressions/experience thus far:
    - silent on the road and highway.
    - took quite a bit to get them balanced (was off by up to a couple oz even from tirerack) so local place rebalanced and it's much better, but I'm still not sure they are perfectly balanced.
    - averaged 22mpg on a 400 mile highway trip with some mixed hills and a light foot. Never had chance to compare to stock. Only other mods are kdmax tune, s&b intake, and removed the plastic lower spoiler.

In retrospect, since most of my driving will be on road, I probably should have considered the Toyo Open Country AT3's or what was just suggested here with the Falken Rubitreks (didn't know they existed at the time) a bit more seriously. These were cheaper though and look good. Haha!

Same size and issue as me. I had a hell of a time to get them to balance.

Skinny tires cut through deep snow better than wide tires. I am not an off roader, so ultimately I deffer to others who are more knowledgeable, but I suspect skinny tires work better off roading as well. OTOH big wide ass tires have "the look".

I have a set on my Pajero and have no complaints about traction on dry, wet, and snow. Two of them took more than 8oz of weight and one took 12oz. I have had them road force balanced and the tires moved around on the rim and still have vibes above 65mph. They only have 7k miles on them and are wearing well. I paid $125 each for SL 245/75/17 4 years ago so that helps, but there is a lot of truth to the balancing issues with these others are experiencing as well - enough so that I will purchase something else when I get new tires on any of my 4WD vehicles.

I would like to think my tire choice is based on performance, but I mostly like the look of them haha.

OP here. I did buy them and had no issues with the balancing. So far they ride nice and are quiet as well. No decent snow since installed, but it I expect they will perform as expected. We'll see...... Have to be better than the crappy Mastercrafts the dealer put on to sell the truck!

Can any others share optimal PSI for the Falkens on a stock PRO/OR at 265/75/16 SL?

interesting - been running 31 cold and these tires are a lot firmer than the stock wranglers .. not sure I want them any firmer. They feel almost like LTs.

when I ran lower than 32psi on my first set on dry roads for extended periods of time I got wear on the outsides of the tires. Bumped up over 35 and it evened out.
