So I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 2.7l 4 cylinder manual and I'm getting ready to pull the motor out and diagnose the horrible knocking coming from one maybe 2 rods and replace them. I'm hoping that's all it is but I won't know until I get it out. I'm needing help with what's what and where things are located. I've searched the internet looking for a diagram or something that will kinda explain step by step how I'm going to do this. I could just wing it but I'm trying to learn everything there is to know... Thanks for any advice given... I'm a very independent 31y Female and I'm doing the work on my truck by myself. It's been sitting for about 8 months now and was my daily driver. I've been without a truck for to long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of pictures, yellow tape for labeling, permanent markers (silver and black colors), zip lock bags for storing bolts, label each bag.

As far as the motor, I highly recommend having a machine shop assemble your short block or even long block. Replacing rods is not an easy task. Getting the correct size rod bearings, etc should be done by a professional.

If you have to ask how to pull a motor, you definitely should not be rebuilding this motor alone. Just my opinion. Good luck to ya.

Last piece of advice, get the FSM (factory service manual) for your truck. It will tell you step by step how to remove the engine and more.
