It might cost less than fixing up the 100. I should get another LC or LX for one of my kids, so at least I will have something to borrow if mine is in the shop.

All jokes aside I think it’d be a really good buy. An 80 is a good size for trails around here as long as you don’t mind pin stripes. The lockers would let you power through most mud holes if you put on knobby tires too I imagine. The turning circle is also really good, which helps on a lot of our more technical trails. Plus you can fit 295s without much effort; it’d be a great trip-leader rig.

Smaller is better around here. I've avoided pinstripes by giving a Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax before going out. I've ridden with unlocked 80s in Hot Springs Offroad Park that did well. They seem to be well-balanced and perform well without lockers.

I can clean up that frame and undercarriage to look like new.

Maybe @Speedytech7 could go look at it for you haha

I found my unlocked 80 to be very capable on rock steps and the like, but it struggled a bit in deeper mud and very slick red clay. In those latter situations a lighter IFS truck can actually be better.

My favourite thing about the 80 series was actually its rust resistance. You rarely see one of their frames rotting out from the inside like a Taco or 4Runner, even up in the salt belt. I’d have less anxiety about getting the undercarriage all muddy.
