    Hi all:

My 03 Tacoma 2.7 has a CEL, code indicates EGR. Anyone have experience with this code where replacement of the EGR fixed it, or is it usually an EGR-related component? Before I drop the $$ for the new valve.

    Thank you!

Which code? A lot of time it’s the sensor, or it could be a vacuum issue.

The code is P0402, "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected," so I suppose this means anything related to the EGR valve, including vacuum lines...

Look at page 375, it shows how to check the egr temp sensor. If it’s not the correct resistance, it’s no good.

If you have a CEL for P0402 and you make repair attempts (eg: new part), will the CEL eventually turn off on its own after making calculations or should it be reset with an OBD command? Instead of a good diagnosis, I just threw a part at the problem (Aisin VSV) hoping that would fix the issue. Thought it better to let the truck decide if that was correct but after driving 4 short trips, the CEL is still on.
