Sorry I didn't take any pics before putting everything back together. You mix it with water, spray it on the fins and let it sit for a few minutes. It turns into foam, expands in between all the fins on the coils and pushes all the dirt out. Then you rinse it clean. I left it on a little too long and etched the metal, but hey it's clean now.

I really need to trim the oleander back, but I'm allergic to those too.

 

Updated photo from this evening. Overhang extends about 3.5 feet out so the porch is covered. The entire plywood substrate is covered in this fiberglass but it’s not well adhered to it in most spots. Thoughts?

My thought is WTF were they thinking? The fiberglass is almost certainly trapping moisture next to the wood and causing rot and mold. Can you see the underside of the deck?

BTW I think it shows real potential to be a nice place to sit.

 

We did a fiberglass deck over marine grade plywood on one of our customer builds. Turned out pretty nice.

 

No idea what the thought was. Guessing if they had good adhesion it would encapsulate the wood like fiberglass on boats and block and moisture? I have no access to the underside, it’s also encased in ply. I’ll snag a photo of that too.

It’s a funky house overall for the northeast area being a big flat mid century modern home but it’s awesome. This porch connects the master and two other bedrooms all from big glass sliders and then the garage is at one end and the dining room at the other. Also has the best viewing direction.

I am thinking this was what it originally looked like.

 

If the deck was built like a flat roof and sealed against moisture that could work just fine. The only experience I have with flat roofs is the house I grew up in. About 15 years after it was built it started leaking. My dad tried every concoction, goop, tar, sealant, and tarp he could think of and nothing worked. The only way to fix it was to remove and replace the roof surface.

I've come up with a new measurement called WTF's per foot. The hack plumber that did my house has on average a WTF about every two feet. Look at this picture and see how many you count.



That's just some of the cold water side, but the hot water side is just as bad and pisses me off nearly every day. There's a circulation pump that is supposed to run continuously circulating hot water so in theory I would have close to instant hot water. I don't like to run it continuously because it keeps the water heater running almost constantly. If I turn the pump off the kitchen sink, which gets 95% of the use is 65' from the water heater. Even if the pump is running it's still 20' from the circulation loop.




So, I've decided to rip out the dipshit plumber's crappy work and re-do the hot water supply lines. When I get done the kitchen will be 25' from the water heater, the master bath will be about 30' and the rest just doesn't matter because they seldom get used. Or, in the case of the laundry room a few degrees cooler on the warm wash won't even be noticed.

I think my only cost will be some Pex pipe and crimp rings. The plumber literally used fittings by the dozen. I'll be able to reuse 90% and remove the other 10% altogether.

 

Question for you guys... I have an LG front loading washer and sometimes when spinning, it sounds like the drum is going to come through the door. Very loud and banging. Works otherwise. Does that mean the shock absorbers are bad?? All the video's I've seen just show replacing them, not the reason for replacing them.. thanks for any assistance.

 

Front loading washers have a part called the spider arm


In an effort to make sure the washing machine dies 2 days after the warranty runs out they make the spider from aluminum. The spider corrodes with normal use and eventually cracks causing the loud banging you're hearing. This is from my Samsung washer after about 4 years of use. The picture doesn't show how thin the old spider is or the multiple cracks. If you have to pay someone to replace the spider it might be cheaper just to buy a new machine. I replaced mine and while it requires the washer to be stripped to the bone it wasn't that hard of a job. It took me 4 or 5 hours to do start to finish. If you think you're going to have it fixed stop using the washer now. If the inner tub gets damaged the repair cost goes up dramatically.

 

Is there a way to verify that's the issue before ordering parts? I can't find any video's showing a machine making the noise. It only does it part of the time the drum is spinning..... doesn't do it when washing

 

That sounds just like my machine. When it started the spin cycle it would make terrible banging noises until the load got balanced. Then it would quiet down. I replaced the shocks first because they were cheap and easy to do, but as you can see the problem was the spider.

Do you have good access to kitchen or master bath or both?

my bro in law did all his own from the basement. Cold has individual shutoff valves per destination. Hot does as well. So, instead of a loop it’s a straight shot with manifold. Each drop also has a hot return line. None are currently used but at some point he will get off his ass and set up the kitchen sink to recirc.

I have my hot water install tomorrow. I think he will be forced to use cold as a return if we do the loop on the master. Or we could loop the kitchen which has decent access from below. Sort of a tough call really. I have a few hours to decide.
