I finally got everything I need to do the Transgo kit so I might take a crack at it this weekend

 

Hell yea. I need that still and the gaskets. Going to shoot to have everything I need in hand by June so after emissions I can get at it

 

When I picked up the turbo I told my wife I'd like to have it in and ready for a trip we're taking around the 4th of July.

Did you decide what truck is getting the turbo?

 

Going to put it in my 03, as it's the one I drive the most and load up for adventuring and such. 97 is just there for backup/utility so it's just not realistic given the miles and shape is in.

Yes, I have many plans to be in the mountains more this year so I'm hoping to take June for install and get kinks worked out enough to start using it pretty heavy after.

 

Hopefully I'll be able to work out some details while getting mine done too. It should be a pretty similar setup on our trucks

 

Yup pretty much identical haha

 

If we put them together it's basically twin turbo haha

 

I just got home, swept out the garage and pulled the drain plug for the transmission. Things are going to happen... In the morning

 

I like it! I'll rev it up every time through when I pass through cedar haha... one a year maybe so you ll know it's me

 

Here we go

 

Here's what fell off the top of the valve body when I removed it from the trans, I'll have to make sure I get them back where they belong when it goes back in.

It's the fat orange spring and a narrow shorter green spring and the little plastic piece with a ball bearing and a very delicate spring (which I believe goes where it's sitting in the picture but unsure if the exact direction).


Looks like the green spring possibly sat right here.

The markings are a perfect fit

Here's the opposite side in the trans


It's possible they both sat in the same spot, if you look close and hard it seems like there's another ring of scratches that aren't as distinct.


The longer orange spring still has paint on the friction surface so maybe it hasn't been moving around enough to wear a mark or rub off the paint.

That's my best guess and how ill assemble it if I don't find anything to suggest otherwise before it goes back in

The valve body is back together, now onto the actuators.

Excited to here if the outcome! Did you go hot rod or truck?

 

Went with the truck settings. Figured its a lot easier to drill the holes bigger down the road if it's not what I want but I think it should be plenty for now

 

Nah I only look at the pictures. I'm reserving all my reading for the Turbo BS thread at the moment

Also, did you get your kit and gaskets from Summit? Or did you source the gaskets directly from toyota?

 

Shifts feel more firm 1-2 gear seems like the most noticeable while driving. There's a noticeable difference in the strength when shifting from park, drive, and reverse too.

I did get the gasket kit from summit. Probably a little bit of a waste but not having the correct gasket was something I wanted to avoid since it's my DD
