How bad is this windshield rust?

The windshield is cracked on my 03 so figured it would be a good time to address the rust I've noticed in the passenger side lower corner.

Truck has spent its entire life in the Southwest so I don't think it's super-deep rust, but the paint is flaking away.

My question is -- I've talked with a well-rated windshield guy who says he'll sand/primer over the rust while installing new glass.

Or should I take it to a body shop and have them do a cut/replace?

Looks aren't as much an issue as much as I want to avoid having a rotten, leaky cowl around the windshield.

Thats nothing! We welded in new steel on the '85. Sand and paint, you will be good. Bondo if there is too much pitting to make it seal well.

Once the glass comes out, it'll probably be worse then you think, Have it repaired right before having new glass installed.

Just took it to a body shop, and the guy there suggested I just sand and seal it before repairing the glass. Didn't seem to think it was worth it to paint it.

Trying to decide whether this is worth DIYing or not. Nobody I've talked to down here seems to think it's worth going to too much trouble to fix. Rust moves slow out here...

Have to agree, had some "light" rust near the lower corners. When I pulled the glass found more spots where the rust was pitting the metal. I'd take care of it now before it becomes a bigger project. Opinion of course.
