Just enough to look kinda cool.
image.jpg Local tractor, feed, country store has trailer parking in the back of the parking lot… I want to be mad at this guy but getting into the spots with a trailer is a bish so I feel it is a pass. He’s also the only truck with a trailer in all the “trailer” spots. Which more stores would do trailer specific parking.

I think if they do “trailer parking” it needs to be one long ass space and that space needs to be wider.

    Dude did nothing wrong.

I believe in CA, you must have the placard hung up on the rear view mirror as soon as you park. If you forget to put it up, you can be issued a ticket whether you are legit or not.

It's also illegal to drive with it still hanging from the mirror.

I have a valid parking placard, 2 actually as is allowed by the laws here in FL since I own 2 vehicles. With that said, since the area is filled with old people, there are a LOT of folks with handicapped placards or plates. I personally avoid using my placard in many cases because I can walk; with pain in each step but it is walking. If the walk is more than 100-150 yards the pain will increase dramatically. However, I also will defer to the veterans, elderly, and those with greater disabilities whenever possible and deal with the pain.

Thanks to a kydex ankle brace, orthopedic shoes, years of pain "management" I can move short distances at a time with what some may see as a slight limp. Some folks the see me get out of my truck and go into a store may not see me as handicapped and assume I am using someone else's placard. I am sure the doctor that has been treating me and now has surgeries scheduled, over the next couple months, to fuse most of my foot and then replace the ankle joint knows that I am handicapped.

Sometimes if it walks like a horse, neighs like a horse, and looks like a horse, it is -in fact- a Zebra, or maybe an Ass (donkey), but still not a horse

It is illegal in FL as well, I would suspect it is in most states.

<sarcasm> I understand it is difficult to put up when parked and take down to drive with that hook over the mirror. So it is best to drive with it hanging up there. That blind spot it creates is no bigger than the A and B pillars of most vehicles combined. No one has ever had an accident due to not being able to see traffic, pedestrians, or mailboxes and such. </sarcasm>

Here in FL you have the option of a plate, placard or both. Those that are too lazy to put it up for parking and take it down for driving can, and really should opt for the plate. I have vanity plates, which are not an option for the handicapped plates, and want to have the option to use my placard when driving a rental or loaner vehicle so my choice was the placard.

There are several different types of devices available to make it far easier to display and remove a placard. A quick search online will find several options for little money. I use one that hangs a magnet on the mirror, which does not hang lower than the mirror at all, and has a sleeve with metal in the top of it to hold the placard.

It would be far better if states would find a way to produce/provide placards that had something like that built in. Then enforce it with random awareness campaigns and ticket drivers for it when stopped for other reasons much like seat belt violations.

Placards are given without charge. Customizing a placard with magnets or other devices can be done at your own expense.

I'd opt for the plate it's always on the vehicle and in view. The plates have become a rarity unless you go to a retirement community or assisted living facility you rarely see them. Placards are more comon. I can't recall how many times I removed a vehicle with out a placard and thought I checked the plate didn't I?

I'm not sure if some states have done away with the plate and gone placard only. It would seem placard would be easier in case the car bearing the plate is not being used but the person it's issued to is in another vehicle though. Think MA does both but I rarely if ever see the plate anymore.

Placard is better for mutiple vehicles. The plate is good as it's always displayed. Lots of people would also state that they wouldn't display their placards due to potential theft, and in fact would have them in the vehicle out of sight.

My brother in law has the placard. Keeps it in the glovebox unless he actually is using it, which he doesn't always.

I have plates on both my vehicles -
I have gotten sh*t from random persons, when I parked and 'didn't put up my tag' - I resent having to respond with 'look at my plate'

I only use the privilege if my spine/legs are acting up; usually when it gets really warm/really fast -
I have been working really hard lately to not use it as often and learn to cope with the stabbing knife/in/my/femur feelings

It’s a shame that some people who have them feel judged or get comments for using them.

we all judge ourselves for using them because we know there are those who are worse off than we are. Making that awareness worse is that we have good days and bad days, and know that able bodied folks don’t realize that.

So while on the subject of handicaps, I have a comment about Target store in Livermore California. My wife enjoys shopping there, and is wheelchair bound. I take her and bring out an electric shopping cart for her, then pick her up later. The former store manager had told her to phone him and he’d send someone out with one of the electric carts for her. Way above and beyond!
She hasn’t seen him lately, the store is dirty, there are only two carts now, both in bad condition, and both stationed deep within the store. I picked the only cart that worked, got it out to the parking lot, and it quit. I don’t think this is Target’s policy, but all on the current manager. Hopefully this rant can reach to someone that cares.
