Hey guys, first post here! Not sure if this is the right forum to post in, but I was curious if anyone had any advice/ideas for refinishing my stock first gen Tacoma wheels? They have some discoloration as shown. Is it even possible to fix?

    thank you!!

Are they painted aluminum that's chipping off or just stained with brake dust?

Get them soda blasted and paint them with some Duplicolor wheel color in the spray can. They have a silver that, in my opinion, looks really close to factory color.

To do the best job you'll have to break them down and clean & prep them very well. Surface prep is key to any paint job. Also, heat the spray can in hot (not boiling) water to thin the paint and help the solvent flash off. Several thin even coats following the instructions on the can for time between coats. Do this on a warm sunny day with low humidity if at all possible.

If possible, rig up a heat lamp in a large box to speed cure the paint at a higher temperature....150°F or so, this will save ya alotta time. Indirect heat is best so ya don't scorch the paint.

A couple of saw horses with a tarp tented over them would work great, use a 2x4 to hang the light(s) from & the tarp to contain the heat & keep dust away. A cheap Harbor Freight halogen work light produces a good bit of heat.

I repainted some rally wheels on a 76 Chevy pickup years back (argent silver) and they looked great and held up a good while.

I had my FJ wheels "remanufactured" by AWRS about 3 years ago and the results were amazing. AWRS is a nationwide franchise, so there's probably a location near you. I got in on a sale, so it cost me about $620 to have all 4 wheels done. They dismount, clean/strip off the old finish, do minor repairs, power coat, diamond cut the faces (if your's is that style), balance and remount the tires. They had my truck for 2 days for the entire process.

@rowanhazard for the amount it takes to renew the finish of a factory wheel, you could update the look of your truck by replacing them with aftermarket.

But recycling/ refinishing them is much better for the planet, just not your sales department.
