Hey guys! I’ve been searching through the forums and Reddit and everything else in between for a few days and I’m pretty desperate.

About a week ago my stock head unit in my 2016 SR5 started to sound static with Bluetooth and was cutting in and out. After the first day of that it got worse and now there is zero sound, bluetooth/radio/plugged in aux etc.

I only found 1 or 2 threads that mentioned this issue and the only answer I found was to replace the head unit.

I researched some head units and found the Joying android one that looks pretty oem for around 380$.

My Tacoma came with the base level headunit that has the knobs at the top and can’t seem to find any information at all on anyone switching it out for something else.

any recommendations or fixes? I’ve attached a photo of the head unit since there seems to be 3-4 different models.

I have replaced this one with Joying.
Bigger, better than that stock SR one

This looks awesome! Which joying unit is that? I had seen that they mentioned it didn’t fit the Tacoma if it had the head unit I posted with the two knobs up top. Did you have to modify or buy anything to make it work?

this is awesome! I didn’t know that they had so many options and verified which headunit I had before recommending.

Theyre great. I used them for my old Jeep. One of the few companies I bothered reviewing. Awesome company .

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes? What you describe sounds like the head unit has serious issues, but I would still try disconnecting the battery before spending money.

Remember that SR5 has a different size bezel compare to TRD trims. So I went with this one. Fits in without any modification. I drilled out 2 rivets on stock bracket to use 2 more screws (not required).
Here is what I bought from Joying

Joying Toyota Special Harness with Can-bus Decoder
    SKU: TU-Can

Joying 9 Inch Double Din Android 10.0 Car Stereo Upgrade With Bluetooth 5.1 4GB/64GB
    SKU: JY-UQ139N4G-H

I posted additional items on Joying thread to connect stock USB port, GPS antenna.
