I don't know if they still make them, or if JC Whitney is still in business, but I bought an antenna replacement that slipped over the stub and secured with a set screw. The reception was fine. I suspect it took about 5 min to do the job. I believe that it was more than 45 years ago when I did this on a German made Opel that I had.

I avoided the broken antenna problem with auto car washes.

I remove it (antenna) before entering, reinstall apron exit.

Same antenna ten (10) years later.

Still works the same as day of delivery.

Thanks to those that replied. The car wash actually sent someone to Toyota stealership and bought a replacement antenna. Ironically it came with a plastic tool to tighten the antenna. Which I will now use to remove it before going through car washes.
This YouTube video was the best of several I looked at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yhxm90bJNU
I started with the 5/64 drill bit, but it was really slow even with a new bit. So dropped down one size to get the hole started. Actually did not need much of a hole for the screw extractor ($3.75) and it worked great. In fact, used the "starter" hole I had drilled and didn't mess with the 5/64.
    Thanks again for replies.
