Body shop bangs dents out of body panels (no offense ... getting the paint to match after requires skill). Someone who installs fuel filler pipes probably knows better about leaks.

I would start by taking it back to the body shop. Talking to them about the issue can't hurt, even if you don't trust them to do further work.

I'm guessing an insurance claim was filed. Next step would be to talk to the insurance adjuster. The insurer is supposed to restore the vehicle to the condition that it was in before the accident.

call the shop, give them the chance to right this. when they had the bed off, they probably forgot to hook up an evap vent hose, or the filler tube has a void in it. It happens.

it takes at least 4 people to remove, and install the box assy, with all the bolts, wires, hoses, the tech responsible for the assembly, could have been side tracked when he thought he was all done. again... it happens. the shop doesnt know something went wrong, unless you approach them on it. Keep the minimaal number of people involved. Less finger pointing that way. Take it back to body shop.

Back to the shop it goes. Had hail damaged fixed on mine but my side mirror would not heat up and melt ice back and forth to the shop twice and they fixed me right up. As said above attitude is huge treat them nice they will fix it.

Scrape all the bondo off and take it to a Toyota authorized shop.

Back to the shop, or straight to the dealer for a trade-in if you can afford it. I never keep wrecked vehicles as a rule. Insurance should cover some depreciation, if you weren't at fault I would consult an accident attorney. Might as well get a bit extra out of the other driver's insurance company. Easy $10k, they always settle fast to get rid of you. Take cash, trade up.

What's his cause of action? Injuries that suddenly appear over 2 months after the fact? Good luck getting a PI attorney to take that case on contingency.

When I used to work EMS in a major city and responded to an MVA involving a city transit bus, the first thing the driver had to do when the accident happened was to close the bus doors. Otherwise the 10 people that were actually on the bus when the accident happened would turn into 20 by the time I got there. They finally installed video cameras on all the buses to put a stop to it. What you are suggesting is basically the same thing.
