I ran my 35 skinnies when I was at stock ride height. We all know lifts don’t make big tires fit.;)

I’ve seen guys clear 35s on 5100s and a cmc. Granted they chopped a lot of fender, did some wheel well massaging, and ran SPCs. It’s not impossible, it’s just a lotta work…either way you do it it’s a huge time investment.

Edit: I feel it important to note that the rigs I’ve seen do this are rock crawling rigs for what it’s worth.

its not if, its why, without a lift;)

I consider UCA's part of a lift but I guess its technically not "lifting" the truck any just making it easier to push the wheel forward

Most aftermarket UCAs actually do the opposite of this, they are designed to increase caster which moves the top of the tire rearward making it harder to fit bigger tires.

So I think you are going to make yourself miserable with a new truck by putting the cart before the horse, man. Just get your suspension and kit ordered and do it all at once the right way instead of trying to play keep up on the 35s and killing your mod budget in the process by greatly impacting your gas mileage.

Stay on the stockers store up parts, have us all out for the weekend for a mod day and we can do it all party style.

I guess if you were running one of the non adjustable aftermarket UCA's with no lift this would be the case but with a lift they are designed like that to correct for the change of geometry no? Maybe I could be misunderstanding what I read about them I have been doing this car stuff for a much shorter amount of time than you guys

both correct.. they have built in caster for alignment purposes on lifted vehicles.. but the byproduct is.. that geometry of the UCA puts the tire closer to firewall.

My man out here dropping knowledge!

What an aftermarket UCA does is correct the amount of caster in the system for a lift, by tucking the tire back. It sounds counterintuitive at first glance.

Bear with me because it's hard to explain in words instead of pictures...

If you look at your UCA's they're not mounted level to the ground. They're angled with the front mount up higher than the rear mount.

When you trace the path that upper ball joint is going to take as the truck gets higher and higher in comparison to the wheel (lifting), it's going to move that upper ball joint diagonally: mostly down, but also slightly forwards. This is losing caster because the upper ball joint is getting closer to crossing forwards of that imaginary centerline of your coil spring.

UCA's move that upper balljoint towards the rear of the car to correct for that.

But now think about what happens when that wheel goes up towards the body when you're crawling over something. It's going to move diagonally: mostly up, but also slightly backwards. This is where it's gonna get closer to your cab mount.

So, CMC's are necessary with UCA's and big tires because when you stuff a wheel during compression, you're stacking 2 factors: the wheels are larger, and the wheels are also closer to the cab mount.

And I believe that because of this SOME fab companies build their UCAs (mainly long travel) moving the lower ball joint forward to compensate for this. And so far the JD Fab lowers move the lower joint furthest forward. I’m new to ifs non rock crawler stuff as far as building it, but in my research and YouTube university this is what I have come to believe. Take it with a grain of salt :hattip:

The JD Fab ones claim 7/8” on both the 2.25” and 4” LT kits. I also like the JD Fab prices over DK and Solo lol
