To me it's like wearing a seat belt. It might save you in an accident or it might not.

Those forestry helmets have the same safety netting as any hard hat I've ever seen and worn. No different than the ones my dad has from all his years in construction either. So they're pretty much the same thing you've been wearing but have face sheild and ear muffs. Besides these have been created by the natural evolution and progression of the logging industry. Every tree trimming service I've seen, neighboring DOT I've visited while working at my DOT job and such use them day in and day out. If they were more distracting than helpful then why would they put them on there in the first place. I think professionals know what they want and don't want.
I kinda like them with the earmuffs and face sheild. I used them at the park district and the highway department and liked them. I like them so I bought myself them.

Also I've learned they aren't just for falling logs. The Highway Department requires everyone to wear one because of something that happened to a contractor on a county project. They were chipping trees before widening a road. You know, nothing too dangerous. Well one of the guys wasn't wearing a helmet and had a chunck of wood shoot back out where they were feeding it and struck the guy in the head and killed him instantly. It might have still killed him even with a helmet. Maybe it would have saved his life and his kids would still have a father.

End of the day I'll keep wearing my chainsaw chaps and forestry helmet when cutting and chipping.

I'm not the type that generally asks for opinions, I just kinda do what I'm gonna do and if it sucks (and alot of times it does) well...thats on me.
Anyhow, my shop is like 35 years old and kinda looks like ass (the bad kind), especially the trim. So, instead of painting it and it looking shitty again in 3 years, I think I'm going to bedliner it. Done for....forever.
I had planned on painting the trim black anyhow, and there's really not alot of it...so I think I will. Eventually.
