I plan on towing a 5x10 utility 'camping' trailer with a motorcycle loaded up front cross-wise, which will undoubtedly result in a tongue weight over the recommended 10-15% overall trailer weight.

Anyone see any issues I might have as long as the tongue weight still stays within the tacoma rating? Also wondering how folks would recommend carrying other heavier items on the trailer (like gas/water cans, propane tanks, coolers). Over the axle, slightly behind the axle, or in the rear of the trailer (to offset the front load)? Thanks!

That Towing Bible doesn't answer the question he's asking. The question is (and correct me if I'm wrong) if you have the trailer loaded and all the numbers fall within the Tacoma's ratings, but the tongue weight is more than 15% does that negatively impact the vehicle's performance? ex: you're towing a loaded trailer weighing 2000 lbs but the tongue weight is 400 lbs (20%). It's just you in the truck and the weights are well under the limits otherwise, will this hurt anything?

I'm honestly curious if anyone has an answer here because I've looked up that question plenty of times and found absolutely no answer to that. The closest thing people have mentioned is the dangers of overloading the axles or going over the max tongue weight, but neither of those issues apply here.

Too much tongue weight will lighten the weight on the steering axle and give a vague steering feeling and poor traction. Depending on what else is in/on the trailer you can creatively load it to lessen the impact of having the bike right at the tongue.

Check the air in the rear tires.
And take it easy in curves. The more weight on the rear the less there is on the steer axle.
