I'm just pointing out that because a guy wants to wash his wheels doesn't mean he is a "hand wash every week" kind of guy.

I have near $500 into car detailing products and equipment. I removed EVERY scuff, scratch, and hint of a mark out of my last car (a business car with 70k). That took over 60 hours of work over a two week period. Then I only washed it by hand using two buckets with guards in the bottom, microfiber wash mit, using borderless drying towels. That sounds like a lot, but that equipment has lasted 8 years now.

Even worse, I also have a 55 gallon tank where i store dehumidifier water so I can do spotless rinses.

My Tacoma was ceramic coated within 4 days an 100 miles of the day I picked it up, now 25,000 miles later there isn't a MARK in the paint (I don't off-road it obviously, just no trails around).

I still don't wash every week, or even every month. Right now mine is covered in red crap from the buds off the tree out front. It hasn't been washed in almost 2 months. Both these vehicles went MONTHS between washes. In fact, the whole reason for all of that is so that I DON'T have to regularly maintain the finish. The effort and products used were done so in order to have a nice looking vehicle that did not require maintenance, not to have a trophy. Both my vehicles cleaned themselves in the rain, its awesome, I barely have to do anything. The flip side is, when I DO clean it then I just make sure to do it right. My wifes Highlander looks pristine nearly 70,000 miles in yet it gets washed only 2-3 times a year and maybe run through the (touchless) wash to get the salt off.

Eih, long winded, sorry. Just pointing out that because someone is looking to clean their car it doesn't always mean they are looking to polish their self bought trophy. Do it right the first time and you can have the best of both worlds, low maintenance and a vehicle that looks clean.

I wish I could dislike this post. You are probably the second person I’ve ever seen brag about investing over $500 in cleaning products. The first being my father in law. I really don’t care nor did I need that information. I’m a very sarcastic person but it was followed up by sound advice. It blows my mind that you’re proud of your $500 cleaning investment. I’m all about taking pride in your vehicles, I won’t knock that, but this post is just unnecessary. Makes you sound like the ONLY thing low maintenance in your life are your vehicles. Is your grass exactly cut to 1/4”? The bird bath perfectly square to the driveway/walkway? The shrubs exactly 36” tall with not a single leaf out of place? Make sure to tell Cheryl and Bill I says hi next time you’re at the clubhouse for your mid game brunch mmkay!

Eih, long winded, sorry. Just pointing out that no one really cares. Guy wants to clean break dust from his wheels and I imagine he would like to prevent the build up all together. Post something useful, or find a sense of humor, unless you don’t have time for that with all your high and tightness.

@Lamiglasmike my brother, best thing honestly is a soft bristle brush like what we use to clean the alcoas and some of this…

And seriously, look into the different pads available for these trucks, find something that produces less dust with out sacrificing so much on performance. You don’t need to spend $500 on cleaning products alone to keep your wheels clean.

One of the few times I’ve washed my truck I used this chem guys stuff and it’s amazing. Followed with a quick wipe down with poly wipe and she was looking brand new.

Also, if you do like to keep your truck clean, that poly wipe helps a ton.

    What a child.

What, you think $500 is a LOT?

Someone offers a counterpoint and folks here will go to the most insane levels to defend the more ridiculous positions.

$500 on cleaning supplies, imo is a lot, yes, not to mention the ceramic coat you did, and the 55 gallons of dehumidifier water? That you collect? Come on man, you basically just asked to get roasted. I think the only person defending themselves is you buddy.

$500 is nothing on cleaning supplies and tools. Not everyone cleans and cares for a vehicle the same. You already said you don’t treat trucks that way cause it’s a truck….and that is fine. Some of us take the approach we spend a lot of money on these things and want to take care of them. Everyone is different and at the end of the day that’s what makes the world go round.

You’re not wrong and I recognize that as well as respect it. It was more about how that information was presented. I’ve known guys that make you wipe your shoes off with a baby wipe before entering their cars. I really don’t care if you pay for a mobile detailer to come to your house on a weekly basis, that post was over the top for the original post. My opinion. And bing free to have opinions makes the world go round. :hattip:

The factory pads on turd gen are semi-metallic. Change to ceramic pads like Advics P/N AD0976 and brake dust becomes effectively non-existent.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Get to the source of the issue instead of managing the side affects
