November 2022, I spoke with a rep in Versailles, Indiana, Craig Toyota, they had one SR5-4WD DC on the lot, not sold, and another one on the way. They would not sell it to me, said they hold them for local buyers. Even Cincinnati, Raleigh, NC, Checkered Flag in VA, where we had purchased two new Toytas in the past, and a few others, holding to their market radius.
I am getting mail now from these dealers, do I want to buy or reserve one. Anderson Toyota in NC, had a $1K markup adjustment.

Highly recommend grabbing a ‘23 now through this summer and you might actually get a decent deal. Once the factory starts retooling & changing over production to the new model later this year, scarcity will go up and dealers will be reluctant to sell w/o markups.

Treasure Coast Toyota by us has $5-10k mark ups on the Tacos I have seen on the lot in the last few months. That’s why.

We lived in Hobe Sound, for 15 years, Zeus Park sub division, across from Harrys. We bought 3 new Toyotas from Earl Stewart Toyota, and 2 from the dealer in Vero Beach. The sales rep at Stuart Toyota told my wife she did not know what she was talking about, we were going to buy a new Camry Solara convertible. She told him to grow up, we left, real a-holes. Earl Stewart is not connected to SE Toyota.

The dealer-required factory add-ons will go away for obvious reasons ... markups which are common now will become unavoidable.

Also dealers have stopped working with out-of-state buyers so that in-state people can be "better served" ... as if dealer markups means "better". Cannot find them even hundreds of miles away.

Put a Deposit on an”Allotted” Unit, on March 3/6/23 at McGee Toyota in Epping,NH jedwards@mcgeecars.com) they also have shops in Claremont NH, and Dudley and Hanover Mass. ( So they catch Switch easily if available or needed.) NO Mark-up at all, actually got a decent price below sticker. Very Decent to Deal and Very easy to deal with. Vehicle is due in a couple weeks.

That's my dealer. I'm in Port St. Lucie. They have really changed their tune in the two years since I bought my truck from them for $2.5k below MSRP. All the more reason to keep this truck for the long haul.

Actually yes they are. This is off the Monroney sticker from one of their new Tacomas listed on their web site:
    Sticker1.jpg

The one good thing is they don't hit you for the $699 Toyogard Platinum, but they have the rest of their add-ons.

I thought about looking at a Toyota today. Then I thought about what a BS time it would be. I got some chicken wings instead.

I put a deposit on a Tacoma 2 weeks ago in part because Ford told me they won't build my manual-transmission configuration until 2024. I've had an order in on one for 18 months. Last straw there.

I'd get a new WRX if I had to have a manual. They even have a 2.4t truck motor under the hood. The only downside is you still need a truck.

I used to work for Subaru, let's say there's no love lost there. haha.
The new WRX is actually a lot nicer in person than it seems in pics. Not wild on the giant center tablet for all the controls, though.

I'm also in a fortunate spot, though. I've had a BMW 135 for 15 years that's basically irreplaceable for me. So, I don't need a second fast car.
I've been work from home for 10 years and I don't commute. Want a truck to replace my '99 Mountaineer. I like having different cars that do different things well. It's a whole thing. ha

I must have got lucky on timing. I searched the Toyota site for dealers with similar builds I was looking for…second call and I locked in a truck for a $1k deposit with my desired color, package and options (only unwanted was mud flaps & tonneau) AT MSRP.

March 2nd deposit, truck arrived March 27th, Build date was 2/23/23. Dealer held my truck until I returned from work travel and I took delivery today.

They are only in stock if you physically see them there. Our local dealer typically shows 10 - 20 on their website but if you actually go there you are lucky to find even 1 actually on location. They want people to think they have inventory to get you in the door.

Exactly. Anything they have as a built allocation, even if it isn’t there yet, will show up on their websites. If they can sell the thing before it even shows up, it’s good for them.

That’s how I bought my trd or. It’s actually still in Mexico. I just saw the listing on a dealer site and called.

Graet dealer bought my 23 Pro there 2/3/23 and yes no markup! 200 miles from my home. Toyota dealer 2 miles from me sucks they're still to this day marking up all Tacoma models. I was willing to travel for a good deal

Crossing state lines can still be an issue. Some dealers will only sell to in-state people, which is far different from when the supply is "normal".

"For Sale" doesn't mean in stock. As stated earlier, many dealers list their entire allotment on their website whether they are pre-sold or not.
