A custom tune is always available over the standard production file. There are additional fees (it's an hourly rate) but we'll get the truck dialed in specifically for the parts/fuel you run. We can also custom tailor shift scheduling or other aspects of the tune to your liking as part of the process.

Just communicate with your local tuner (if using one) or let us know when you purchase your tune pack you'd like to option your tune with the custom option.

Got the tune today. Initially he gave me lite/mild and I have 265/75-16 tires and didnt even notice a difference, so he re upped to mild/med and that made a difference.

Those are just production files/settings. But that's what 99% of folks opt for. Unless you're running premium fuel exclusively or have a setup that is capable of moving a good deal more air over the OE setup, a custom tune is seldom worth the additional cost for a naturally aspirated 3G Tacoma.

However some folks have unique needs and require a unique shift schedule or want a throttle setting custom designed to their needs, or simply have extensive modifications that warrant the time/effort/cost of a custom tune.

Hello guys for a daily driver what kind of level of tune would be needed? After watching some Youtube Vids they talk about Light/mild or medium
well I do not know nothing about tuning and i can not find what this light mild or medium options do on PNW tuning website. I would pay $500 for a tune But I also have no clue on these options to choose, and what would be best.....

Paul did a light/mild tune on ours a couple of months ago. It runs exactly as it should have from the factory IMHO and it’s gotten better over time. Step on it and it immediately responds. No gear hunting, and shifts are precise and timed perfectly. Jump on it and it just gets up and goes. Want some extra boost? Push the ECT button and you’re off!

I’m very happy with it, but Paul said that if I wanted to try the medium/spicy tune or something else that he’d be happy to do it any time, no charge.

Best money I’ve spent on my Tacoma to date. Paul’s a great guy and I’m sure you’ll be very impressed with your “new” Tacoma too. ;)

Paul is the guy from PNW Tuning? This is my first truck and I do not know nothing about what's going on with that ETC button, I do not have a trailer or haul anything let alone done know what ETC is for and what's it do, OR wen to use it...
As for a Tune yes I want to get it, but I also want to do my research and understand, I am not a machinic type of guy so I don't know nothing much..

hey bud! I’m sure we can work something out, I’ve had a couple guys ask about STL so I may make a trip out that way periodically until we can fill that void. Shoot me a message & let’s get you worked out.

I run Big Dawgs Toyota Tuning.

I just did a 2500 mile road trip from CO trough OK, TX, MN right after I got the lite/mild tune.

What a difference - confidence overtaking on single carriageways, the throttle response is immediate without any lag, far safer.

A mix of 80 mph highway on cruise, town driving and some gravel roads, and got an average 18.45 mpg! That was a big surprise. The mpg started off quite low and gradually increased, probably due to the computer re-aligning my driving over the first 500 miles.

Yes, Paul is Paul from PNW Tuning. The ECT button is explained in your owners manual. Here's a pretty good explainer:

    https://youtu.be/2FmAHYrjpE8

You can go down a lot of rabbit holes trying to understand how a performance tune works, but there's really no need if you don't have the time or desire. Bottom line with a tune like OTT's, overall performance is smoothed out to a BIG degree (no "gear hunting") and response, stepping on the gas, normal accelerating or flooring it, is instant (eliminates lag/hesitation). There are more benefits, but that's probably what you'll notice right away. Night and day for me.

    Hope that helps!

Sweet! I've also noticed improvements over time. It's gradual so it doesn't hit you in the face (or seat of the pants), but thinking back to day one of the tune, it's apparent.

Will a Tune void my warranty from Toyota?

I believe @JustDSM from OTT has addressed that question in this thread previously so I'll let him chime in.

Bottom line, your tuner (Paul) can return it to OEM at any time if you like. I have read numerous posts by folks saying that they had to have various warranty work done and the dealership never once mentioned it. Haven't ever read a post by anyone that claimed that the tune voided their warranty. YMMV though of course.

I've had a few wheel spins taking off on a corner already - I certainly need less throttle travel now

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
Hey guys! Doing some research and read the first few and last couple of pages (no ways I'm reading all 48!) and have some questions. First off; stock DCSB OR 4x4, AT, daily driver, even highway and city miles, tow ~5000lbs a couple times a year, hit the trails with some technical spots (using 4lo, S1, or 2) throughout the year. Like everyone else, tired of sluggish response and gear hunting/shifting. Is there a version that would fit my needs?

Just had Allan tune my truck yesterday. The result was nothing short of amazing.I have a stock truck acess cab standard trans. Well worth the money. Allan a great guy took his time told me what he was doing every step of the way.Told me go out and drive it try it out. I never expected what i felt i have to learn how to drive it again.Loved it so much went home got my Tundra and he did that also.then hangout for alittle and shot the shit. If you have been like me I've been reading about it since page 1.Can't say enough.i think i enjoyed watching guys come back from the test drive more than Allan. He takes all the time a customer wants i know cause i saw it .tune is the best thing i did!
