I just got my Rear Coolant Bypass Joint replaced $1200.00. This is a very common leak that happens at different mileages on 2016 and up, Some Tundras also get it, Normally i would have replaced it myself but the Location of it is far beyond what tools i have in my rollaway and garage, The rear coolant bypass joint leak is located in the back of the engine over the transmission, To get to it you have to drop the trans, My leak started as a seep then as time went on the leak just gave way, Since its such a common leak i asked Toyota MFG if a recall was put out on it and Nothing, So i made a complaint to NHTSA Hopefully they will put a recall on it before anyone else experiences what happened to mine, If you have the leak the website complaint link is: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

    Toyota says this is normal.
That being said, happy to file a complaint when I have the issue myself.

How is it a safety concern?

It is a safety issue because the leak actually starts as a seep then all of a sudden its a fountain like mine happen from a return trip 300 miles from home stranded in pretty cold weather not to mention a overheated v6, The part is made of plastic and heat plastic do not mix well, Toyota could upgrade the part

OK, so how do you see this happening? Do you just notice your truck peed in the driveway?

Take a flashlight go to passengers front door look underneath on back of engine, On top of transmission bell housing, If its leaking you will see the antifreeze crust buildup usually pink
