Active duty military. I’d be taking that shit to the hobby shop on base and asking around. They have all the tools cheap bay rentals with lifts disposal you name it. And most of the civies that run the hobby shops are ASE certified.

Does the Tacoma come with a dual mass flywheel?

No money, all went to truck...
My 2nd gen clutch job at dealership was a little over $2k. We have a regular mechanic that we trust. He recommended taking it to Toyota for the repair. Was happy with the job. They accidentally changed the master cylinder and couldn't charge for it so it was kind of a score.

Check out Certified Transmission and Havers for a second opinion. Both family owned. I used Havers a few years back on my buddys truck when I helped him PCS. They did a good job and were honest. I think they were just outside Omaha.

WTH is "Perform 4x4 Service: $299"?

EFI/TB service [cleaning?] is crazy high also (If you want it serviced, I'd find an indy with BG Service for probably half

I’m willing to bet you have a p0335 DTC. Anytime check engine light comes on your trac light will turn on too..Sounds like they damaged the crankshaft position sensor wiring upon repair. Either didn’t repair the wires correctly or damaged the pins/connector. If you take it to dealer and they find that’s the case I’d be having that Independent shop pay your bill.. they 100% created the problem and now can’t diagnose it and just throw parts at it. Sounds like a typical independent shop to me.

What are the codes. Also the price was fair at the dealer. Most places don't resurface flywheel/rotors anymore, yes parts are expensive at the dealer and they quoted extra stuff but the idea is to bring it to your attention so you atleast have the option and can decide on your own, if you don't ask/ tell the customer about these things some would never even know it had to be done. But for your concern post the codes. It could be as simple as the battery was disconnected and throttle body went back to baseline and with it being dirty now it's giving issues and will until it re compensates

Not all independent shops are like this. Any monkey can install parts but it takes a master to diagnose a problem. A vehicle doesn't leave my shop until it is properly diagnosed and fixed. Most of the time shops don't have the correct equipment and or are lazy. That's why it pays to play in the technician world. They're are plenty of good techs in this forum as well.

OP: whichever shop did your clutch should do better and or pay for the damages if they caused your issue

I agree there are quality independent shops. Although I can’t count how many times I’ve had customers come in after having a hack job performed then get mad after they see the quote to fix it right.
That independent shop should have documented exactly what connector/wiring circuit they repaired on the first repair and given him the DTCs after pulling codes when he had limp it back in.

As a former flat rate tech I can say flate rate is the leading cause of terrible techs. Watched many good apprentices and star mechanics turn into hacks about 1-2 years are getting their tickets because of flat rate
