No teasing here - I was just worried you bought a “long distance detector” AKA “gold spear”. If it was one of those you’d have deserved some teasing! :p - no- I would’ve just gently recommended that you try to get your money back. But never get one of those POS’s, they are sold by POS’s that prey on unsuspecting people. They also go by the term “wand”.

A “pinpointer” like you bought is a very useful tool, especially when metal detecting when you have a hole going and want to save time digging. They are also useful for finding pipes and wires in walls before you drill a hole or put a nail in it.

Don’t ever fall for one of these!

even if they sound and look enticing. You might as well just get a stick and point it, that’s all they do. Sad thing is some of these cost thousands of dollars and people still buy them!

That's a great idea, I never thought of that. I used my pinpointer to find a small piece of my son's airsoft gun that fell in the dirt/fir needles in the yard - it worked great.

Ouch! My hands hurt thinking about post hole digging like that! Break out the breaker bar, we’re gonna have fun!

    Yep.

At 65, I can do it....but slowly. I need three for this gate and short fence. I did one and went and did something else.

BTW the white quartzy rock is very veiny - picture is pretty lousy. Those two were quite hard, some sulfide rocks here are soft. But yeah big digging bar breaking rocks!

Let me know when you want to meetup. I move to Santee here soon.

I probably won't be fully settled in until around Sept'ish though.

    Hey all!
Been slacking off this year but finally did a hunt at one of the small local beaches this morning.

Solid 59/60 about 6 inches down.
That little Apex machine is amazing.

Has the date and initials and a company that starts with a "W". I'll try to find the manufacturer from the era. Can't make out the rest even with magnification.
I'd say it was in the ground over a year+ as it was in the hard pack sand below the loose stuff.

Ah, I understand. I’m in the shorts right now too and was downsizing some unneeded stuff. I have another VLF (Equinox 800) to use else I would keep it. They’re good gold detectors.
