So I installed a new power steering rack on my 04’ 6 lug double cab Tacoma. I noticed that there is a popping noise at times when I brake hard, turn while backing up (lock to lock most times.) the brand of the rack I believe is TRQ. In hindsight, I should have just gone with a different brand. But I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issues and how they fixed it.

Check the bushing on the rack that's farthest to the passenger side [rounded elbow one]. Sometimes it'll make noise in those circumstances as the rack tries to move underneath that bushing. A little white lithium grease along each side of the bushing, then turning the wheel lock to lock while stationary to get the grease to slide in there may silence that. I could be totally wrong, but I had similar issues when I replaced by rack bushings, and this solved my issues.

The Energy Suspension rack bushing kit may fix that if it’s moving in the bushings
