I don't know if it being on TikTok disqualifies it from being a "real thing" either.

That just brought back a horrible memory. My Mom made that once. Once.

I grew up with a counter top convection oven size of a microwave… best food ever from it… in the 70s. The home versions seem to be lacking. Commercial units are a class above. I’ve heard of good home units, I just haven’t found one. I’m all ears if you have one to recommend. I’m certainly not against them… it’s just most are mediocre attempts to cash in on the name association (air fryer).

No, no diss. Just wanted to point out it isn’t new territory. There are ALOT of crappy products that fail to deliver usable results. It’s like trying to find a rice cooker now. Lots of entries, plenty of fails.

I bought a Gourmia from Costco and it was horrible so it went back. The only reason we bought the new one was because it was larger than the Instant Vortex Plus, which has been fantastic.

I have a waffle maker (makes pizzelles too!). I guess it could be a panini press… just unusual markings… o_O :anonymous:

I love my waffle maker, though rarely use it for conventional breakfast waffles. More likely to make savory waffles. Leftover stuffing waffles for turkey sandwiches after Thanksgiving...now you're talkin'

That's a level of THC infused culinary thought I enjoy.

Back in college we had a "make your own pizza" station in the dfac. It had cheddar cheese. You'd put your toppings on this cardboard dough, send it through a conveyor, and it was good to go. Great. No plates through the conveyor, apparently that was a thing. Every other night was pizza, alternating with taco bar. Every so often the stars aligned and it was curly fries + pizza bar night. Get curly fries, put them on a cardboard dough, cheese, conveyor. When we made it, everyone would look at me and my roomate like we were high as a kite, then when it came out the other side as a melty cheddar cheese fries - we were heroes.

The dough was a sacrifice though since it just needed something to carry it through the conveyor.

    Same, made it once.

It was....edible. Like none of me was thinking "this is bad", but for the same effort and cost I could make something with canned apples or peaches and it be a lot better. I think it was a depression thing (both contexts of the word)

My parents grew up during the depression. I think my mom used the same roll of aluminum foil my entire childhood...wash and reuse

I thought the same thing! I could use my green chile stew that I make for these. And I also think Brisket Birria would be fricken dynamite!!!!!!!

Velveeta is a real thing even though we may not know what it actually is! It's been around for over 100 years so I'd say that counts. It's lasted longer than Jello Pudding Pops

But if you make something out of something which you don't actually know what it is, what is it?
