Hi, I have an 2006 2WD Mostly stock as its my daily as well, I put a locker in it so I could get further off road.
I am going to weld up a set of sliders that I would like to bolt on so I can remove them when not camping.
My intention is not to rock crawl or need to pivot off or around something. I just want some extra protection for the body in case I slide into a rut or hit a rock that is deeper/higher than I thought.
So can I get away with 1/8th x 2 Inch squared tubing or do I need to stick to 3/16th x 2"?
Also anyone know of any post the point out the best place to bolt through the frame?

I wanted good rock protection, pushing me into RCI 3/16 in powdercoat steel engine, transmission skids and 1/4 aluminum cat guards.

In the alternate, for weight savings, TRD Pro engine skid (1/4 aluminum, 20-ish lbs) for $400 saves finding mounting places, avoids rust, and Toyota can change oil through that plate.

TRD Pro is easy, self-build is harder and will be 40-ish lbs if it covers as much as the RCI steel or aluminum.

If you insist trying ... this found ny global search "diy skid tacomaworld" ... https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/make-diy-skidplates.687529/

Be prepared for "maybe I should look for people selling here secondhand or buy from Toyota or from RCI/its-competitors".

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It comes down to what steel you can by the cheapest.
