I bought this truck last October, put 2 coats of carnauba wax on and undercoated with fluid film. to prep for its first winter. Now that winter is over I did my first hand wash and there are spots of rust all over, but mainly on the lower door panels. I have kept it washed off weekly through the winter and now I cannot believe what I am seeing. I have attached 2 images and all those spots are rust Very disheartened with this to say the least. WTF is going on here and is anyone else experiencing this?

Have you tried washing then applying an iron remover and follow with a clay bar? Could just be iron deposits from road and industrial fallout/rail dust. I used to get it on my 09’ black sand pearl since i work in the rail industry.

I think people here have had this on there roof and people recommended a professional clay bar treatment.

Is something hitting the sides of your truck? (Like the pea gravel you’re parked on?) Even the Tacoma badge looks pitted. I can’t imagine the paint just failing like that without some external ‘cause’.

I'm pretty sure those moldings are plastic so that's what this has to be

Start with a good quality iron remover. This is sprayed on the paint then pressure washed off. Followed up by a clay bar treatment. Those are metallic particles that are on the paint. It does look like a lot though for 1 winter and after a couple coats of wax before winter.

Get a bottle of IronX and use it as directed. It's likely particles of brake dust from other vehicles that stick to the exterior and then bleed/rust. One treatment of IronX and it turns purple and washes right off.

Like I said, I have kept it clean, it has 5000 miles just now and 2 coats of wax before winter. This kinda of crap does not happen to a brand new vehicle. I am 60 years old and this is not my first vehicle. I have never seen this before on any of my vehicles and I have lived here my entire life. Very pissed off about this, just sent an email to the dealership.

Edit to say my last vehicle was a Tuxedo black F150, had it for 11 years and never saw anything like this.

Let’s see - trailer, pole building and a tarp in the background. Do you do any welding, grinding or metal work around the Taco? N-Taco may be right - it could be metal particles stuck to the paint.

No, No, and No. Shouldn't be seeing this on a new truck. Would really like to hear from anyone else that lives up north.

I have a Midnight Black 2021 Sport…2 years next month.

I have no issues with the paint.

This is very interesting to read.

My truck was built in Mexico. (I’ve been here long enough to know that’s something TW compares)

Yep, Straight outta Guanajuato, October 2022. Was your built in Baja? I have never seen this on any of my vehicles before.

I live up north, east coast of Canada. How many km’s/miles on your truck this winter? When I drove a lot for work I would see more of this type of thing. Metallic particles off the road from various sources get stuck to your paint. Which is why you see it more down low and behind your wheels. Try iron x or similar product and if your truck turns purple after a few minutes from these particles you have your answer.

Never, not once, had I seen this on my black F150, same roads. I have 5K on it now. 2 coats of Maguires Carnuba wax did nothing or the paint is failing.

It would take years did chips too turn to rust.. it's like fall out, very noticable on every white car. Clay bar or iron remover is good, just he sure to wax after.

The truck itself can only be rusted if the paint is removed. Are those all chips in the paint?

I strongly suggest what others have said.... Get some Iron-X or something similar and a decent clay bar. If the rust is gone after that and the paint is still there, then you know it was external. Or just take it to a local detailing shop to do it.
If it's chips in the paint, then you have a bigger problem.

how old was your f-150? These newer paints, especially Toyota, seem to be very soft. My 2022 has a very soft clear coat as I’ve found my traditional method of polishing swirls out is too aggressive for this soft clear coat. Soft clear coat will allow these iron particles to etch into it easier. There are a lot of external factors that may have caused this on your paint as well compared to years gone by. Try iron x and see what happens.

So this is Black metallic paint. Could this be particles in the paint that are rusting? This is my first vehicle with a metallic paint.
