So my 2011 Tacoma came with a lovely “customized” grill. Basically, a former owner must not have liked silver and was too cheap to replace it so they peeled off ~80% of the silver. It looks pretty terrible. I’d like to replace it.

Question for y’all: should I just get an OEM silver grill like it had or do something else? Body colored would look good, but I’m afraid after 13 years the paint color won’t match well and it’ll just look bad. I also considered getting black. I’m open to suggestions.

Painted to match looks good, but I'd be more concerned with chipping than it matching. Even rock-pitted chrome looks better than chipped paint.

Low cost interim solution is black paint, Plasti-Dip or bed liner coating.

Buy an unpainted one from rock auto or ebay, then take it to a body shop and have them match your paint color.

I hate those chrome grills. I replaced mine on my 2011 Tacoma back in 2017 with a color matched one. I just called Toyota and had one shipped. Wasn’t cheap, but color matched perfectly. I was going to do the Plasti-Dip in black till I found out that I could get a color matched grill. I jumped on that right away. No clue as to whether your paint would match the new grill if you go that way, but if it doesn’t, you could probably return it. It might be so close that only you would notice it.

You can get an aftermarket TRD Pro Style one with lettering type and color of your choice, with the option of 4 LED's

that way, the truck looks like a truck and is more visible
it is big and hard to stop

You don't want to be going 45mph and a person pulls out right in front of you (their fault for venturing into a lane when it was not clear and safe to do so, but hard to prove)
with Raptor lights, people tend to do that less

in sub-ideal conditions, at distance, the two little dim side bulbs of the Tacoma don't do a very good job at letting people know it's a vehicle less wise to pull out in front of
