Tank range matters to some people.

I'm on kdmax pro and get anywhere between 20-24mpg per tank. Mostly closer to 20 but road trips with more highway closer to 24. I have stock size tires currently but a 2" lift.

Went from a 17 OR to a 21 TRD pro. Had the Pro tuned with KDMAX 3 days after I got it. Would have probably kept the 17 had I known what a big difference it makes. Gear hunting is 95% gone. Can't compare my MPGs as I had it done so soon after I got it. No dealer issues.

The problem I have with KDMax is that it seems not to want to shift up into 6th gear enough. I’m on 32”s and 4.88s and it seems to be confused by it. OVTune had a specific file for my config that shifted up into OD properly. Others running different setups probably don’t have this issue but it’s not working for me.

You probably won't get a negative response from anyone with a tune. I'd just drive it the way Toyota programed it, unless you add a SC. If I didn't like the way the truck drives on the stock tune. I'd get a more powerful truck all the other midsize trucks are more powerful than the Tacoma.

If you want a tune get the tune, if you like tuning vehicles chances are you would want to tune the more powerful truck too.

But Toyota won't do that because Toyota keeps their stock tunes under heavy guard. Toyota would sooner send out one of their corporate engineers to look at the stock tables than to let a tech at some dealer have access. Why do you think it took the original OVTune 3 years to fully crack the ECU?

True, but in reality they don't have to show anything, or allow access, all they have to do is compare values between what is in the truck and what the file is supposed to have. From there it can just say "not the same".

True, speaking only for myself then. But then again I was already getting 18/19mpg especially after I changed tires and now its 17/17.5 after the tune. I suppose my mpg still also varies on where and how im driving in this case LA

Been about 3 years and about 30k miles on the tune, premium SFOB running 94E0. I absolutely love it!

I have a 22 TE and got the kdmax a couple of months after getting it.big difference doesn’t feel sluggish at all and I’m running 285/75/16 gas mileage pretty much stayed the same after the lift and tires so I can’t really complain love the tune

2021 Limited. My dealer doesn't ask and I don't tell. We're both happy. Tune cost $400. The best mod you could invest in. Mild is good, medium gives it a kick off the line.

KDMAX 9.0 here, tune has made the truck more responsive and mostly eliminated the bad shifting. Gas mileage is about 2mpg worse. How you guys are getting better mileage I don't understand.

Could I have survived without it, yes, was it worth it, absolutely it was, even for a bone stock vehicle. The throttle and torque difference makes it drive like a go-kart compared to a gutless turd.

I blame the loss to the increase in throttle response. I put my foot down more often, but the mpg are coming back to normal as I calm down a bit. :D

I don't get into the throttle much. I am about as conservative of a driver as you can get, just above the threshold for getting flipped off for going too slow. Hahaha

With KD I got better mileage over stock even though it wound up the engine more between shifts. As a fuel miser I'd almost never take it above 4k.

OTT. 174k miles. Got tuned at 8k miles. No issues. Did drive a friends without the tune. It wasn’t pleasant. He drove mine. Got tuned next week.
